MY TAKE ON VIBE CODING.
I'm Peter Diyo, A full stack software engineer. I work for US based company, ClarityText.
I started coding when I was in university, in India. We never had such things as vibe coding, we believed in reading docs, grinding LeetCode to get into MAANG(Meta, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Google) companies.
Here is what I learnt while in India, people are hungry for businesses and startups in tech, in those countries and they come up with any possible solutions that seem to make people's lives easier but while generating income, such as AI tools.
AI is here to stay, and people are going to vibe code. It's now a business competition in big tech companies and countries, and that's why those countries thrive, they embrace such opportunities - makes them better, get rich. Look at Cursor, Wndisurf, and now Microsoft integrates GitHub Copilot into VS Code. While we are here debating about "not using AI", "You are not a real developer".
However, as senior engineers, our main sensitisation to junior developers should be:
- When to use AI tools for dev
- How to use AI exactly
- what are the good and bad parts of vibe coding (because they are good parts of it)
- Encourage them to read docs more than anything, but remind them that AI is coming with opportunities.
I'd like to conclude that today, most startups and companies look for faster feature shipping, quicker debugging, thereby more income.
I'd like to hear your thoughts. :)
