🚀 .NET Conf 2025 Zambia – What a Milestone! 🇿🇲
We’re incredibly proud to have hosted the first-ever .NET Conf in Zambia! What started as a simple idea among a few friends who genuinely love the .NET framework turned into an amazing event filled with learning, connection, and inspiration.

The turnout, engagement, and overall energy from the community were truly encouraging. It was incredible to see developers, students, and tech enthusiasts come together to share knowledge and grow the local .NET ecosystem.
A huge thank you to all our speakers 🙌 your time, insights, and passion made this event possible and impactful.

We also want to give a special personal thank you to Gerald Versluis from Microsoft 💙. He’s always there for us whenever we call on him, and he has never disappointed. His continued support, encouragement, and willingness to give back to the community mean more than words can express.

This event is just the beginning. We’re committed to growing the .NET community in Zambia — creating more spaces to learn, teach, share, and support one another as developers. The journey ahead is exciting, and we can’t wait to build it together.
Thank you to everyone who supported, attended, and believed in the vision.

A small project that taught me a LOT about AI + mobile development

Over the past little while, I’ve been building a side project called TalkBack a cross-platform .NET MAUI mobile app that helps turn meetings into something actually useful.

The idea was simple:
👉 record a meeting
👉 turn the audio into text
👉 let AI pull out the important stuff

But the learning along the way went much deeper than I expected.

TalkBack records audio on the device, transcribes it locally using Whisper, and then sends the transcription to Azure AI (GPT-4) to generate a meeting summary and extract action items, assignees, priorities, and due dates.

What I really enjoyed about this project was figuring out how to make local AI and cloud AI work together in a clean, practical way while still keeping the app responsive and user-friendly.

Along the way, I got hands-on experience with:
NET MAUI and XAML for cross-platform UI

Proper MVVM patterns using CommunityToolkit.Mvvm

Audio recording with Gerald Versluis' Audio plugin and stream handling on mobile

Running Whisper locally for offline-friendly transcription

Prompting GPT-4 for structured, JSON-based outputs

Managing async workflows without freezing the UI

There were plenty of small “aha” moments (and bugs 😅), especially around audio handling, SVG sizing in MAUI, and getting the AI output consistent and usable but that’s where most of the learning happened.

This project reminded me why I enjoy building things: not just for the final result, but for everything you learn while making it work.

If you’re experimenting with .NET MAUI, AI in mobile apps, or Azure AI, I’d love to connect and learn from what you’re building too.

“So when will we ever use this?”
I remember asking that in my fourth-year Internet Technologies and Mobile Networks classes.

Fast forward to a random night in class, I was studying, my hub connector (you know… that USB thingy 😅) was back in my room, and I needed to transfer some files from my phone to my Mac.

No internet connection, so WhatsApp or Drive were out of the question. That’s when it hit me: Wait… I’ve literally learned how devices communicate over a network, why not just build my own solution?

(And yes… I know apps like this already exist. This one was purely for learning, experimenting, and proving to myself that I could build it. 😎)

And that’s how Transfer3 was born, a cross-platform file transfer app that actually uses all those networking concepts we once thought we’d never need!

Here’s what I implemented:
1. UDP Broadcasting (Device Discovery) — those broadcast addresses finally made sense!
2. TCP Socket Programming (File Transfer) — the classic three-way handshake, but now it’s moving real files.
3. Real-time Progress Tracking — because watching data flow in chunks is oddly satisfying.
4. Clean Architecture + MVVM — OOP principles in action.
5. Cross-Platform Support — one codebase running on Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS.

The coolest part? Watching two devices automatically find each other through UDP broadcasts, connect via TCP, and transfer files in 8KB chunks exactly how the textbooks described it, but this time I made it happen. 🤯

It reminded me how powerful theory becomes when you actually apply it. Big thanks to my Mobile Networks, OOP, and Internet Technology courses turns out, those lectures were more useful than I thought. 😅

Huge thanks to my Mobile Networks, OOP, and Internet Technology lecturers for the knowledge, patience, and inspiration turns out, those lectures were more useful than I realized back then! 😅

My Trip to Mingomba, A Life-Changing Experience

I recently had the opportunity to visit the exploration site, which may soon become a fully operational mining site.

The trip was organized by Startup Africa, a group focused on helping young entrepreneurs grow by combining what we learn in school with real industry experience. They also expose us to new business ideas and opportunities we might not think about.

At Mingomba, we learned how they use Artificial Intelligence (AI) and new technology tools to improve their work. It was amazing to see how AI and Machine Learning help in making exploration and mining smarter and more efficient. This experience opened my eyes to how technology can play a big role in industries like mining, which aren’t always open to outside software developers.

Before this trip, I didn’t think much about exploration or mining, but now I see a lot of potential for people like me who love tech and problem-solving. Thanks to Startup Africa, I’ve discovered a new interest in exploration and a deeper understanding of how powerful AI can be when used in the right place.

It was an inspiring experience, and I’m truly thankful for the opportunity!

It Feels Like One of Those Eras Again… and This Time, I’m Not Just Watching

Looking back, every few decades, something comes along that reshapes everything, how we live, work, create, and even think.

The rise of personal computers.
The dot-com boom.
The invention of Bitcoin and blockchain.
And now? It’s AI.

I’ve read about all those earlier waves mostly from a safe distance ( I didn’t even exist in the first one 😂😂 and I was too young and under resourced and uninformed during the second one).

I learned about computers in my university Computer Organization class (I swear I understood at least half of it).
People like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs rode these waves, and look at their companies now.
The dot-com boom? The likes of Jack Ma rode this wave and came up with Alibaba.
I read about Bitcoin while googling “what should I do after learning Python?” I missed investing early on this one, probably because my priorities were misplaced 😂😂 (don’t ask me how I feel about that).

But this time, I’m paying attention. WE are all in this together.

AI is moving fast. Tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney, Claude, and Sora aren’t just fun experiments they’re turning into foundational platforms. They’re changing the way we build products, design workflows, create content, and imagine the future.
This feels like the early internet again like the start of something massive.

So, whether you’re building, learning, exploring, or just keeping an eye on what’s happening, I truly believe this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity.

Ride the wave. Build something. Even just learn something new.

Let’s seize this opportunity. We can be the pioneers of AI in Zambia and Africa at large.

So, in whatever you do, think about how you could integrate or use AI to make processes better and more efficient.
As the CEO of NVIDIA said, “Your job won’t be taken away by AI; it will be taken away by someone who uses AI.” Be it a business or just an individual, let’s learn and make things with this wave.
Let’s ride it. Happy week!

Flutter and React Native Aren’t the Only Options 🤷‍♂️ (Yeah, I Said It)

Whenever someone wants to build a cross-platform app, it’s like the universe hands you only two options: Flutter or React Native. They’ve basically become the Coke and Pepsi of mobile dev. Flutter fans will yell about hot reload and beautiful UIs, while React Native devs chant "JavaScript everything!" from the rooftops.

Now, don’t get me wrong Flutter is great. I’ve tried it myself, and I respect it.
React Native? Haven’t used it yet. So I cant say much about that lol

But here’s where I switch things up.
I use .NET MAUI 🏝️ (yeah, you read that right).

It’s new, it’s still coming up, and yeah, it’s not as “mainstream cool” as the other two but that’s part of the charm. It’s like finding an underrated underground artist before they blow up. Microsoft has been seriously leveling it up, and the progress it’s made is wild.

What I love about it? You write in C # ( I think I just really like the .net framework really 😂), you build once, and you target Android, iOS, and even Windows and macOS. It’s like the overachiever of the group:
“Oh, you only do mobile? Cute. I run desktop too.” 😎

And because it's part of the .NET ecosystem, you get all that sweet dependency injection, powerful tooling in Visual Studio, and performance that doesn’t make you cry when you open Task Manager. The hot reload is a little shaky here and there but with cool librarys like the Dotnet Meteor, you get XAML hotreload for faster development for all your UI’s. Plus, it compiles to native, so it’s not just some fancy wrapper pretending to be fast. It actually is fast (Not pointing finngers at any framework at this point👀).

Is it perfect? Nope. It’s still growing, evolving, and catching up in community packages and UI polish. But the direction it’s going in? 🔥

Let’s just say I’m betting big on MAUI — and it’s already powering some of my own apps. Ive attached some screenshots from some apps I’ve made and the default app (todo) done in Maui.
