Anybody else tired of slow line speeds, exchange congestion, throttling and shaping? Well I am.... and I think,as I am sure you do, that it is time our options improved. Our bandwidth requirements are starting to balloon and in the years ahead, as the demand for online media content and data intensive applications increases, we need to be level par or ahead of the game to be considered a suburb of
choice. At the very least I expect savvy home owners and businesses in the near future (probably already) to include fibre in their check list of must have's when house or premises hunting. It will become more and more relevant and should be considered an important value enhancer/maintainer for your property. I may not be a guru in this space (and certainly welcome any input), but what I do know is that if Parkhurst in JHB can do it, then so can we! They were the first open suburb to secure the installation of Fibre to the Home... go check it out www.parkhurst.org.za. The 2011 census numbers puts Pinelands household numbers at close on 5,000 (excluding businesses) with a population of just over 14,000.... surely this cannot be sniffed at! In the last Pinelands Ratepayers and Residents Association meeting I raised the question of FTTH and was duly tasked with looking into it. So, my first objective is to test the likely success and to hear what the residents want. In this regard I hope to put out a poll that I hope will have sufficient support to get good stats. Simultaneously I will approach some of the fibre service providers and check their criteria. Hopefully I will be able to go back to the next PRRA meeting armed with the results and hope that we can to take it to the next level. I do hope this will be a successful endeavor and that the light at the end of the tunnel is, in fact, bundles of lightning fast data coming at us down a fat fibre pipe!
