Thank you, Ohm!

Georg Ohm was a German physicist and mathematician born on March 16, 1789, in Erlangen, Germany.
He is best known for discovering Ohm's Law, one of the most important principles in electrical engineering.
In 1827, he published his research showing that electric current is directly proportional to voltage and inversely proportional to resistance, expressed as I = V/R.

At first, many scientists ignored his work, but years later his discovery was recognized as a major breakthrough. Today, the unit of electrical resistance, the ohm (Ω) is named in his honor.
Ohm's Law is used every day by engineers, technicians and students to design, analyze and repair electrical and electronic circuits.

From mobile phones and computers to electric vehicles, industrial machines and household appliances, this simple formula is a fundamental part of modern technology.

Georg Ohm's contribution continues to shape the world of electronics nearly 200 years after his discovery.

Ohms Law! How many times a day do you use this formula?

Directly connecting an LED to a battery without using a resistor is the reason LEDs do burn out. The answer to this question is Ohm's Law.

The law describes how the voltage, current and resistance interact with each other in every electrical circuit; V = IR is one of the most fundamental formulas associated with electronics. With an increase in the voltage of an electrical circuit, there will be a corresponding increase in the current flowing through it based upon its resistance. Therefore, resistors are put in place to help protect LEDs and other electrical components from the overcurrent that will be present if they are connected directly to a battery without a resistor.

Ohm's Law is used in everything from mobile devices to audio amplifiers. If you have knowledge of Ohm's Law, it will greatly assist you when troubleshooting electrical circuits.
