💛 The Liquid Gold of the Kruger Canopy! 🌿

As we were driving into Berg en Dal camp on one of our visits to the Kruger, we were lucky enough to catch this striking Black-headed Oriole perched beautifully in the trees! 📸

🎶 The Sound of the Bush: Despite their dazzling, electric-yellow body and contrasting black hood, these birds are surprisingly tricky to spot high up in the dense leaves. More often than not, you’ll hear them long before you see them! Their iconic call is one of the most delightful sounds in the bush, a rich, loud, bubbling liquid whistle that sounds almost like a flute echoed through the canopy.

💡 Did You Know? (Nature Fact): Beyond their classic liquid song, Black-headed Orioles are incredible vocalists with a hidden talent; they are known to practice mimicry! They can imitate the calls of several other bird species (including the African Paradise Flycatcher and hawks) to communicate or ward off rivals!

Watching this one hop through the branches as we arrived in camp was such a fantastic welcome back to the KNP!

There is a hidden gem in Limpopo where the mountains are perpetually draped in mist, the forests are ancient, and the wildlife is vibrant. That place is Magoebaskloof, and it is an absolute goldmine of inspiration for all kinds of photography and fine art.
These three striking shots were captured during a brief visit to the area in February last year. We encountered so many different species during our walks, and these three butterflies were just a few of the incredible moments that caught our eye. Looking at the crisp wing textures and soft forest tones, we knew these pieces shouldn't just live inside a digital folder. They belonged on a wall.

🦅 The Unmistakable Voice of Africa! 🌅
There is one sound that instantly transports your soul straight to the heart of the bush, no matter where you are in the world. It’s the piercing, hauntingly beautiful call of the African Fish Eagle.
We were incredibly fortunate during one of our visits to the Kruger National Park in 2025 to experience this beautiful creature up close. We were driving slowly down a quiet gravel road when we spotted him sitting perfectly in a tree right next to the roadside.
Because we were moving quietly, he didn't fly off. Getting this close to a raptor of this scale, close enough to clearly see the intense amber in his eyes and the powerful grip of his talons on the bark, was an absolute adrenaline rush for the trip.
For me, that high-pitched call is the ultimate soundtrack to any KNP safari. It doesn't matter if you've heard it a thousand times, it still gives you goosebumps every single time it breaks the morning silence.

There is nothing quite like the feeling of locking eyes with a leopard high up in a tree. 🐆✨
I captured these moments during a spectacular sighting where this beauty was completely relaxed. In the 1st photo, that draped tail and intense gaze completely stole the show, while the lighting on the 2nd really showed off the incredible rosettes and patterns against the bark.

You don’t need to drive all the way to the Kruger to find backyard magic in Gauteng! 🍂✨

I was absolutely thrilled to capture this stunning Red-throated Wryneck right here in my suburban Kempton Park garden. These photos are from two incredibly lucky visits, one from last May and another this past February.

Seeing that rich, rufous throat patch up close in the garden light was something truly special.
