Been eyeing this spot out for a while. It’s located on Windermere Road opposite the Engen Garage. It is the bottom end of the detective station. The whole station is derelict while detectives and police officers work there with hardly any furniture or fans, some rooms have smashed out windows. It’s shocking. The money was stolen. Hard to believe 😤

I approached the Station Commander and asked if I could paint a mural on the wall. She was super grateful and gave me the go ahead. With all the GBV issues at hand, thought this would be a great opportunity to make change and get rid of the old and do something vibrant, uplifting and meaningful on the wall as it is a super busy road.

While I was scoping the wall out and figuring out how to clean up and trim overgrown bushes etc, a few homeless guys that I know, see them often in the area and have fed a few of them a few times over, came up to me and we got chatting. I asked them if they would be keen to help fix up the area and paint the wall for me ( paid work with paint provided). They were keen and did a great job. 👏🏼 I also felt it would bring some purpose, some hope and make them feel proud of something they were apart of.

I have started painting this wall but will be over the next few months as it’s not a paid gig. So if you are in the area, have a look at the progress as I chip away on this project and making the area look better and feel safer. ✌🏽
