Early start, expensive future

Good news: 69% of Trailblazers attended an ECD or crèche when they were young — higher than the national average.
The problem? When asked what the biggest challenge is for families with young children today:
71% said cost of fees.
Early education matters. But only if families can afford it.

Making voices count

Wakamoso's mission is simple:
Take the voices, experiences and data from marginalized communities — and make them visible.
Visible to decision-makers. Visible to funders. Visible to each other.
Because when people are invisible, their needs don't count.

One-person survival, not job creation

When asked if local entrepreneurs create jobs for the community:
Only 10% said "definitely"

32% face protection fees

Why jobs matter beyond paychecks

People in full-time or stable jobs report:
Higher happiness scores
Lower sadness and worry
Stronger sense of purpose
The unemployed, especially those actively searching, report the opposite.
Work gives more than money. It gives structure. Routine. A reason to wake up.

It's not just about money — it's about security

Our survey found a clear pattern:
Trailblazers with multiple income sources report higher wellbeing.
Those with only one irregular source (often a grant or casual work) are more vulnerable and report being less happy.
It's not about being rich. It's about having a buffer.
