Bringing late 1950s charm into the modern age with zero rewiring required. 🏠✨

We recently gave this classic Cape Town Airbnb a complete smart home upgrade using the Akubela Retrofit Kit. Now, guests get an effortless, high-tech stay without damaging the property’s original character.

Here is what went into the transformation:

Keyless Access Control:Upgraded the entry with the Akubela C6 Smart Lock for seamless check-ins.

Central Control & Intercom: Installed the HyPanel Plus PS52 right at the entrance (replacing the old light switch) to serve as both the main smart home hub and an indoor intercom monitor.

Seamless Entertainment & Climate: Integrated the G32 Gateway to bring IR-remote equipment (like AC units and TV setups) directly into the smart ecosystem.

Smart Lighting: Switched all traditional lighting over to Shelly Gen4 switches running on the Zigbee protocol for instant automation.

The best part for the property owner? Zero new wiring was needed to pull off this full retrofit. 🛠️⚡

Out with the old. In with the smart. 🚀🏠

Another successful smart intercom upgrade!

We replaced an ageing Kocom intercom with the Akuvox 2-Wire Smart IP Intercom Solution without the need for expensive rewiring.

Using the existing 2-wire cabling and the Akuvox NS-2 IP Converter, we transformed the property’s old infrastructure into a modern smart access system.

✨ The upgrade delivers:
• Clear video & audio communication
• Smartphone visitor calls 📱
• Remote door unlocking 🔓
• Modern touchscreen indoor control
• Minimal disruption to existing walls and finishes

Old wiring doesn’t always mean old technology.

With the right retrofit solution, existing infrastructure can be upgraded into a smarter, safer and more connected home.

Thinking about upgrading your old intercom system? iThusoTech can help.

If you are properly developer of MDU units we have custom solution for you which will increase the property value of your project without breaking the bank. A solution tailor made for South African property developers….

🏗️🇿🇦 Why aren’t more South African developments going smart?

It’s not because developers don’t see the value.

It’s because smart technology still needs to make commercial sense.

With budgets already stretched across solar, battery backup, water security and rising construction costs, traditional home automation can easily become a “nice-to-have.”

We believe there’s a better approach.

Akubela’s wired + hybrid smart home ecosystem brings together:

🏠 Smart home automation
🔐 Security & access control
📹 Akuvox video intercom
💡 Lighting & scenes
🌡️ Climate control
🪟 Curtain & blind control

All through one coordinated ecosystem.

By combining reliable wired infrastructure such as IP & KNX with flexible wireless technologies such as Zigbee, developers can reduce complexity while creating smarter, more desirable homes.

The question shouldn’t only be:

“How much does smart technology cost per unit?”

It should also be:

“How much more value can we create per unit?”

That’s the future of smart residential development in South Africa. 🇿🇦🏡
