Being the eldest, with all of my 3 sisters diagnosed with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy over the past 2 years, has been incredibly complex and painful. Obviously for them far more so than me.
Knowing how to hold space for them in their darkest days when they’re delivered bad news after more bad news and all experiencing unique physical pain and set backs is really difficult.
Uncertainty around what their futures will look like is heartbreaking. And what level of care they want or need is something we’ll work out as a family as we go.
But I am so proud of them and how they’ve handled a major life blow. My sister .mac has been inspirational. I’m immensely proud to be her big sister and I hope I can find the same strength she has to care for them as she has to cope with it.
Life is tricky, weird and wonderful. It’s a blessing and we are never guaranteed our days here or what those days hold.
From one big sister to a better younger sister - I love you. 💚🤍

When I started building , I had no idea how life was about to change.

I know that a platform centered around death planning would be confronting and uncomfortable to some, but I also know how important it is. How precious it will be for those we leave behind.

Over a year and a half ago we found out that my Mum and all three of my sisters have a rare degenerative genetic disorder called Myotonic Dystrophy 💔. It affects their health and every day lives and will get harder for them as time goes on.

It’s devastating that as their big sister there is nothing I can do to stop it for them. It’s been so hard to watch them all struggle with their mortality and the diagnosis. I can’t imagine how hard it’s been for them experiencing it. They’re so brave letting me share their stories.

My sister Terri has created an after me profile and she said that it gives her a massive sense of peace and relief. At least I can give her that.

That’s why it exists. That’s why I believe in it. It matters, because they matter and the ones we leave behind matter.

“This is hard for me to still talk about. But I think it’s so important.

A couple of weeks ago I almost lost my Dad. An unexpected medical emergency. He’s recovering now and we are so lucky he is still here. 🤍🫶🏼

My life changed that day - watching him fight for his life. I happened to be back in my hometown and there when it happened, doctors confirming he would have died if he was home alone.

The shock of it all only sunk in days later. The small but mighty occurrences that meant he wasn’t alone. The what if’s. My Dad is my daughters guiding light and best friend. What would happen to her if he died?

My Dad has believed in since I dreamed it up over 9 years ago. He’s one of the driving forces behind it (check out About Us) on our website for the story (link in bio).

I’m a Guardian Angel for my Dad’s profile. He’s filled it out. I’m proud my Boomer of a Dad has spent the time sharing his personal thoughts.

What it says I hope I wait a lifetime to read, but I came close to having to 3 weeks ago. I am so thankful I didn’t have to, but I tell you what, I am SO thankful it’s there for when I do.

I truly cannot advocate more for how much I believe in death planning. Peace of mind for you and a piece of you for your loved ones, when they need you the most.

I love you Dad. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for fighting so hard to still be here.”
