The Battle of Art and Sol is part of the First Annual Downtown Saginaw Art Market and Festival. The “battle” is a singles/pairs competition to display the Artist’s talents with the given theme of Fall In…Art and Sol (solar works/green energy) in a three-hour time limit. A Battle of Art and Sol will be held outside on Saturday, Septemb

er 28th, 2013 in Downtown Saginaw’s Morley Plaza Area, behind TV5. A Battle of Art and Sol is a judged event for the grand prize of $500.00. There will also be a People’s choice prize of gift cards to local restaurants and entertainment venues. This portion is won by ticket sale limited to 5 tickets per person. Participation in the Art Battle is limited to the first 15-20 Artists who complete the contract and pay the $30.00 entry fee. Artists also receive an event based t-shirt and a wristband for entrance into First Merit Park for the Fall In…Art and Sol kick off event. The event includes live entertainment till 11:00 and a 100 piece installation of the world’s largest piece of solar art. This event precedes the kick off at First Merit Park (DOW Event Center’s new Amphitheatre) of the regions first “Fall In…Art and Sol” sponsored by the Great Lakes Bay Regional Arts Alliance. Fall In…Art and Sol is a month long celebration as “a way to encourage people to experience the depth of cultural opportunities available across the region.” The event at First Merit begins at 3 pm with music scheduled throughout the entire day. Also showcased that day is the installation of the world’s largest display of solar art—a one hundred piece installation of a work from Jerusalem titled Night Garden. Hello Everyone,

I will have Artist registration forms printed up tomorrow and I'll be at the Redeye if you'd like to meet up there and sign up. Hope to see some of you there. We have limited spots left so sign up tomorrow to reserve you spot.

Hello Everyone,

Because we had a late start to get artist for the battle, we extended the deadline for the registration forms to the 21st, anything past that and you have missed out.

Here is a sneak peek of the t-shirt I designed for the event, t-shirts will not be for sale as we are doing a limited run only, those who are artists at the event and volunteers will receive one but that will be it.

We are still looking for Artists and Volunteers, so please if you are interested in either, please contact Jared Hart to express your interest.

Hello Everyone,

Had a future participant email me a couple questions this afternoon, thought I would share.

1. Is the theme Solar works/Green Energy? I just wanted to be sure.

The topic is Solar works, sorry about the confusion everyone, although you don't have to stick to this theme, the judges will be.

2 Are we allowed to use pictures for references and or sketches from a note pad?

As for sketches, YES, I encourage it. You just cant have anything on your canvas/paper/board, whatever be the case. You can have premixed paints, sketches in a book or picture reference.
