Join us Saturday, July 6, 2024 for the opening reception of “Real and Imagined”, an imaginative, intriguing and beautifully skillful exhibition of photographic works by artist Abhay Bharadwaj.

Artist’s Statement:
I do not approach photography with a preset mind. Therefore, I allow spontaneity to guide me.

My goal with photography is to record my experiences as I walk through life. Sometimes it’s color, other times it’s shapes and forms or the eternal play of light and shadows that I gravitate to. It can be nature or concrete jungle.

Born in India and having grown up in a modern city, I am certain that was a significant influence in my formative years. I loved painting and drawing when I was growing up and even won several awards for it. The positive experience of art in those stimulating surroundings has stayed with me. Art has been a subconscious presence throughout my life.

I attempt to capture the emotions in my photography and hope my audience can experience the same as they view my work.

Finished painting for MAC’s Flat Out Under Pressure 2024. This year was intense and fun. I love this event because it gives me the perfect excuse to turn off the phone, step away from the computer, ignore the laundry, and just paint all day. It’s amazing!

I can’t wait to see all the great pieces created in 24 hours. The talent in this town is jaw-dropping!

New piece for MAC’s upcoming exhibition,
Visual & Verse. I was honored to be paired with poet . I will hear her poem about this piece for first time on opening night.

EKPHRASTIC POETRY: Poetry Inspired by and in response to works of art.

Greenville is home to both practicing visual artists and poets. 15 poets and 15 visual artists merge their work through poetry inspired by works of art depicting a “sense of place.” The culmination of this endeavor is an exhibition of the artwork alongside its corresponding poem with live poetry readings at the opening reception.

PAINTING DEMO WITH PHIL GARRETT

30-minute demo begins at 6:30pm

Join Phil Garrett as he demonstrates a subtractive oil technique that combines the expediency of an acrylic imprimatur (colored ground) and further refined acrylic underpainting with layers of luscious oil overpainting and glazes. Phil will share insights on the oil pigments and mediums that have become essential to his work, demo varnishing options for both oils and acrylics, and finish up with tips on how to modify paint and clean brushes and tools without the use of harmful chemicals.
