Felt abstract in blue lately

So earlier this year, I decided that I wanted to make something to submit to the Arotake Toi Mahara Arts Review exhibition at our local Kapiti District Gallery, The Toi Mahara.

I think it took me about 20 hours all up (not consecutively) to complete this piece, that I have titled 'Close to home' unfortunately this photo doesn't communicate the whole piece too well because the brown paper 'reveal' piece is 3d and has a coffee wash on it so it smells like that haha. It is inspired by a photograph I took of the Otaki Gorge Road tree tunnel.

This piece got selected to be in the exhibition, which runs from November 1st til January 31st 2026. 🎨

Nek week I am going to attempt to start an October art challenge. This one here to be precise. Because I am stuck in a gold paint and medieval manuscripts phase right now. So this one would lend nicely to that, thematically. I'm not doing this daily because thats entirely too much consistency, but going to aim for 31 pieces. I am posting this here in case anyone wants to join in the fun and do some cool art bits too!

This is a portrait made of Cher when I was doing a portraiture class circa 2018. Acrylic paint, Indian ink, and white crayon. Do wish I'd used purple instead of blue on the left side. But we live (after love) and learn.
