A Multi-level Visual Story: 100 Light-Years Banknote
—— Part II —— Decoding ——

Humans have been broadcasting radio waves into deep space for about 100 years now, since the Radio Era began in the early 1920s. Our hopes, dreams and fears about ourselves and our place in the Cosmos still exist somewhere out there, where they now form an ever-expanding 100 light-years radius bubble, announcing Humanity’s presence to anyone who is listening.

Composed in Binary code, now known as the “Arecibo Message”, a string of 1.679 digits of 1’s and 0’s was beamed in 1974 towards the Globular Star Cluster Messier 13, located more than 25.000 light-years away from Earth.
Traveling at the speed of light, those “ones” and “zeros” will take at least 25.000 [human] years to reach the outskirts of M13 and at least another 25.000 years for any potential reply to reach us.

With the help of the UV-lamp that’s included in the box, the destinations to four of the most important Interstellar Radio Messages that we sent, can be seen residing inside the 100 ly bubble, slowly drifting on a infinitely Binary sea.

A Multi-level Visual Story: 100 Light-Years Banknote

On 16 November 1974, Earth’s first ever Interstellar message was transmitted from the Arecibo Radio Telescope toward Messier 13, a collection of hundreds of thousands of stars located about 25.100 light-years away from us.

“Arecibo Message” has become an icon of the 20th-century space age in the 50 years since it left Earth. You’ve almost certainly seen it at some point, even if you didn’t recognize it for what it was. Arrange its binary digits in a grid, and the transmission reveals a 2D image that tells of us humans, our home in the Solar System and the instrument that sent the message skyward.

The unique way of highlighting the graphic side of the message, and how simple is to switch and see its Binary core, elevates the experience of seeing this artwork to another level.

The best memory that I got from this year, [luckily I had quite a few, keeping me warm from now on], is this moment right here. ✨

Let me explain it to you:
Being able to spend some time this summer with my kid and amazing wife [Paula Duță - Personal Playground] back in Timisoara [Romania] together with our best friends for the first time, WHILE having to paint a tribute mural there. That’s a sweet combo for me! 🖤
It was such a beautiful and frightening journey, I had never imagined [although hardly wishing for] to fly back to Romania as an artist, this time with my young family beside, in such a short period after becoming a father.
I just noticed that I can’t describe the feeling that I had when my kid continuously wanted to kick the colored spray cans that I was painting with. 😅 The older my daughter gets, the more I learn about myself.

Have a wonderful end of 2023 and let’s see more often next year. 🎄✨

I am deeply and forever grateful to my beautiful, courageous and extremely strong wife [] for this tough and painful birth that's now been engraved onto my back of the skull, as it was an emotion-bending experience.
I'm overwhelmingly delighted to introduce you to our daughter 👶Hannah, our rainbow 🌈 child! That's her after just 12 hours of being born!
Simply put, I just want to thank my brave wife for doing such a perfect job! I know it will bring her a smile. 😘
