Here are some tips for drawing borders for your worlds.
Geography can be a great starting point as it dictates how easy or difficult moving through an area is. A mountain or river, for example, can make passage to the other side difficult. There are countless examples of kingdoms and empires in history whose borders are defined by these geographic features. Other sorts of difficult terrain like forest, deserts, swamps, and oceans have similar effects to varying degrees.
When building your world and story, consider how these features might impact the people who live near them and how they might slow or even stop expansion.
Of course, these need not be hard obstacles. If there’s sufficient incentive to cross them, like valuable resources, then people absolutely will. The key is that the resources must justify the time and effort required.
Fantasy worlds make this even more interesting as things like magic can turn nearly impossible into trivial.
So, start with geography and keep it in the back of your mind, but don’t let it necessarily be a hard stop. If there’s a reason to push past, then people will.
