Saudi Arabia’s new social media influencer permit

As more Saudis connect through their social media profiles and even begin to profit from these platforms, the Kingdom has launched a new licensing system to properly monitor the influencer industry.

From early October, every Saudi and non-Saudi content creator in the Kingdom who earns revenue through advertising on social media must first apply for an official permit from the General Commission for Audiovisual Media (GCAM).

For a fee of SR15,000 (roughly $4,000), content creators will receive a permit lasting three years, during which time they can work with as many private entities as they wish and promote any product or service, as long as it does not violate the Kingdom’s laws or values.

Emplifi, the leading unified customer experience platform, revealed the findings of its Q2 2022 analysis of social media spend across thousands of brands worldwide.

The report findings highlight a rebound in median monthly global ad spend compared to the same period last year, a decrease in the median monthly click-through rate (CTR), a slight uptick in median monthly cost-per-click (CPC), and steady engagement on Facebook and Instagram. The data also shows a slight decrease in brands’ response rate to customers who ask questions on social media.

After seeing a notable post-holiday drop in Q1 2022, median global monthly ad spend among brands rebounded by 18% in Q2 2022, climbing back above USD 4,200 – a figure close to the year-high level that was seen in Q4 2021. With this quarter's rebound, median monthly ad spend has increased 19% YoY, suggesting that brands are allocating more budget to reach their target audiences via paid social.

When Dubai expecting its busiest travel season in two years over the summer break, the emirate’s police have warned travellers against posting photos of their boarding passes on social media. A top official highlighted a case the police had received where a famous person was robbed after he posted his travel plans on social media.
Many people like to show off that they are travelling in the first or business class, and post photos of their boarding passes on social media. These travellers don’t realise that criminals can access their personal data.

Tech giant Meta is launching an online store where Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger users will be able to purchase digital clothing for their avatar.
In a Facebook post, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch of 'Avatars Store' on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger.
Initially, Meta will offer digital outfits Prada, Balenciaga, and Thom Browne. Although the pricing of the outfits hasn't been decided yet, the free clothing options for Meta avatars will still remain available.
Zuckerberg wrote, "We're launching our Avatars Store on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger so you can buy digital clothes to style your avatar. Digital goods will be an important way to express yourself in the metaverse and a big driver of the creative economy. I'm excited to add more brands and bring this to VR soon too. Eva Chen and I tried out some of the new looks from Balenciaga, Prada, and Thom Browne - a change of pace from my terrycloth sweater."

10 Social Media etiquette you should follow while using:

1. Don’t pretend to be someone you’re not
Even though the internet gives you a sense of anonymity, you don’t even realize how easy it is to find info on anyone. You don’t need to reveal every detail of your life, but if you are an American man, don’t pretend to be a French lingerie model.

2. Don’t be a smartass
It’s nice to have something valuable to say, but what the internet (ok, the people on the internet, to be more precise) hates is self-acclaimed experts in every field. So you say you know everything about military, Britney Spears, Azerbaijan’s foreign affairs and emus? Riiight. Sure you do.

3. Don’t get into arguments
Social media is a great source not only for news (in the future, if not already now, the only answer to ‘where were you when XYZ happened?’ will be ‘on Twitter’), but also exchanging views. Even if you don’t agree with others, don’t let it turn into a nasty argument.

4. Don’t stoop too low
If you do get into an argument, say whatever it is you have to say and leave. Don’t call anyone names, swear or use 5th grade-worthy comebacks.

5. Double-check your grammar
Nothing undermines your credibility more than grammatical errors (well, at least in my eyes…). And although nobody’s perfect, everybody can use Google and a spell check.

6. Interact with people
If someone replies to your post or tweet, say thanks or start a conversation. Social media, like the name suggests, is a social activity and no one likes to be ignored.

7. Censor yourself
Some people treat their Facebook or Twitter accounts as diaries. But please, for the love of god, don’t share EVERYTHING with your readers. Some things are meant to be kept private and let’s keep it that way.

8. Don’t post party photos
Maybe you impressed your high school friends with photos of you drinking and smoking, but unless you actually are 16, don’t do it. Especially if there’s vomit anywhere in the pic.

9. Link original sources
Although the idea of original source on the internet is rather an unachievable fantasy, posting a photo/video/article/joke with a link to the site or person you got it from (e.g. via the ‘share’ option on Facebook) will surely be appreciated.

10. Have fun
Last but not least, social media is supposed to be fun. Leave whining, crying and complaining elsewhere and instead meet new people, share interesting stuff, broaden your horizons and enjoy it to the fullest!

First time ever in this world!
India is considering whether to set up an appeals panel with the power to reverse the content moderation decisions of social media firms, the information technology ministry said, in what would be the first such move of its kind worldwide.

Instagram recently announced that it is releasing a brighter icon along with its own typography. The company confirmed that the new design language will place the content at the center of the window, with a focus on simplicity and self-expression.
This seems to be Instagram's biggest rebrand in years. But the decision to tweak the design system has got mixed reactions by users online.
Meta-owned Instagram has showcased an all new visual identity. One of the most notable changes includes the wordmark, now rendered in the 'Instagram Sans' typeface.
As per Instagram, the refresh is designed to help the platform “create more immersive and inclusive experiences.”
The gradient is said to have been reimagined with "vibrant colours to make it feel illuminated and alive, and to signal moments of discovery".
The new typeface, Instagram Sans, is "designed with Instagram's heritage in mind and includes multiple global scripts."
Instagram's new layout and design system is "content-forward and celebrates creativity, simplicity and self-expression."
'Instagram Sans(opens in new tab)' is an all new typeface based around what Instagram calls the "squircle" – the rounded square of its logo. The typeface is also available to use in Stories and Reels.
One of the most noticeable use of the typeface is in the brand new wordmark which replaces the 'handwritten' style that's been around for long.
"We are bringing new energy and purpose to our colours, typeface, logo and other brand elements with a refreshed visual identity. Our new system is designed to embrace continued evolution to help us create more immersive and inclusive experiences for our community." Instagram stated.
The company added "Our vibrant gradient was reimagined using an innovative 3D modelling process to make it feel illuminated and alive. The Instagram gradient, made up of our brand colours, is the foundation of our complete color system. Through illumination, the gradient signals moments of discovery in our marketing, logo and even in-app as seen in Create mode, stickers and Instagram Story rings. We are excited to bring life to the Instagram experience through the energy of our reimagined gradient."
