Scored this vcr combo for $14.99 minus 20% or so. It would not eject a tape.

The Sony/Samsung mechanism has a cheap gear w no replacement. Unless you have access to a 3d printer and the file.

So, a Google search showed a file for this gear. A buddy printed and I attempted to install. It needed a bit of clearance on the bottom.

Then, recalling the alignment of the other gears, attempted to put back together.

Well, it loaded. But no picture. Hmmm. Apparently, it was setup for component vs composite. A factory reset fixed it.

After a head clean, it works great. Oh. Even came w the remote. Now add this to my ever growing collection of vcr dvd combos.

On the bench is a box of video tape conversion.

Why Mr Ed? Local, for one. Also fair rates and the confidence all video stays in house. And never goes online.

Having fun trying (so far not successful) to restore this gateway to factory configuration. The original optical drive is defective along w the original hard drive.

Gateway makes it difficult to restore w aftermarket optical drives.

But a challenge nevertheless.

Today's PSA. Got this via txt (sms). Nothing to click but there is a qr code.

Not sure how i can w the same device, but I'll play.

Got a 2nd device and scanned. A pop-up asked if I was a real person and answered in the affirmative.

Took me to a well crafted ez pass for maryland. It only asked for name, number, address. Nothing to click. None other links work. I already have ez pass.

The letter said I had traffic infractions un paid. But my 'bill' was for $6.99

Apparently, they use geolocation when you click the real person to present the ez pass relative to you. Looks legit.

Thought I would share.

Oh, and there are no new counties in md.

Just a simple battery replacement in a MacBook A1502. A tad fussy to remove the old one. But once removed, easy to install the new one.

Can finally close the chapter on this vhs machine.

From a replacement gear to a really good cleaning of the mode selector switch,and finally, a replacement cam coupler.

This was a fun repair.

But wait, there's more. Upon assembly, the rewind would not work. It would rewind during play, but not fast. So, removed and de ox some switches and made sure the cams were in alignment. Seems to be all better.

Now I'm an expert on this mechanism for now... 😀
