While traveling this past weekend, and my media transfer is really focused on digitizing analog media for portability and/or perseveration, one word came to mind - mixtapes.

The 80s were a wild time of partying and romance. That special tape you made for your 'boo' when things seemed on the rocks.

The wild late 90s/early 2000's when Napster and Limewire gave you full and unfettered access to every song at the time and used your parent's computer to burn audio CDs.

Also, in the 80s, home taping was all the rage and the occasional home movie. Remember America's Funniest Videos? VHS was at the peak.

And we cannot forget those 'sketchy flea market DVDs'? :)

Well, if you provide the media (audio files), I'll make you a cassette.

If you like, I can also burn audio CDs like the late 90s.

Any and all current video files (iPhones, pocket cameras, TikTok downloads, expertly rendered on a VHS tape or DVD.

The VHS retro nerd culture is alive and well. Blockbuster style 'man caves' and clubs (coffee shops). And tapes/ (walkmans) are highly sought after. And CDs - many are enjoying the physical experience that our parents enjoyed while consuming entertainment media.

If this sounds like something you would like, please let me know.

Make Analog Great Again :)

and... Let me copy that for you....

The fun never stops. This Emerson combo was actually pleasant. The chassis removes easy vs trying to diffuse the cat.

The mode switch got cleaned and l**e. Cleaned a few sensors and finally, a deep scrub on the head and tape path.

The one issue is a cable that inserts in to the board, went off sides. So, needed to remove the clip and manually insert.

Except for a broken volume up (missing the tab), all happy n stuff.

This was fun. First time servicing a TV vhs combo. Emerson ewc1303 w a bent loading tray. The biggest takeaway is to properly discharge the cat.

After some fussing, the mode switch was the culprit. Needs to be more shiny than grandma silverware.

Heads are dirty, but playable. Unit still has a quirk or two, but seems to play fine. Is there more I can do? Yes, but not really worth the time and effort for a full on refurbish. That said, I would like to work on more of these.

Good day. :)

As you know, I can copy VHS and other media to digital files, but was tasked w/ a last minute urgent project.

There was a HS 20th reunion in two days, and they needed media from their graduating class. One person had a DVD, but no means to work with it. She reached out to me and said, please - make it happen.

Well, I was not sure if this was a Windows Movie Maker created video or random media clips.

It was a standard DVD w/ three menu items. So extracted the media and rendered to original MPEG files, and MKV files, and finally, upscaled MP4 files - suitable for playback on any smart tv or computer.

So, in addition to video media, I'll also transfer DVD (home made) and any audio CDs (think 2000's mixes), and also, 80s era mixtapes.

That's right, I copy and convert all analog (and DVD) media to modern formats.

So I say again....

Let me copy that for you.... :)

Scored this vcr combo for $14.99 minus 20% or so. It would not eject a tape.

The Sony/Samsung mechanism has a cheap gear w no replacement. Unless you have access to a 3d printer and the file.

So, a Google search showed a file for this gear. A buddy printed and I attempted to install. It needed a bit of clearance on the bottom.

Then, recalling the alignment of the other gears, attempted to put back together.

Well, it loaded. But no picture. Hmmm. Apparently, it was setup for component vs composite. A factory reset fixed it.

After a head clean, it works great. Oh. Even came w the remote. Now add this to my ever growing collection of vcr dvd combos.

On the bench is a box of video tape conversion.

Why Mr Ed? Local, for one. Also fair rates and the confidence all video stays in house. And never goes online.

So, let me copy that for you....
