We have had the first site up in Norwood, LA for 90 days now. There was a lot of demand for service so we decided to go there and give it a go. The demand was big enough for investing into the Parish. Once we had everything running, a lot of folks "crawfished" on getting connected for whatever reason. For what was spent to get to Norwood, LA...we are just not seeing the return that was expected to keep moving forward in LA. At current levels, the ROI is falling out of our normal time frame. Until this changes, we are going to hold tight where we are.
We have made the effort to get service into the Parish. Moving forward from here will require the communities involvement. Call it "East Feliciana Internet Co-op" for example. We will help any community to get High Speed broadband, however the cost to get this to your community will have to come from members of your communities. If the communities decide they want to do this, they will be able to get Internet at their homes for a reduced rate because they will own it. We will provide the Internet feed, the network administration, along with technical support so that everyone continues to have good quality service. It will also give the communities that do this a reduced monthly cost for service. This model will be able to afford a service for under $50 per month for true speed Internet with no data caps.
So, are you still going to wait for "someone" to come do this, or are you going to be that "someone"? This was how the Power co-ops began.
