This is what a 240V EV charger outlet looks like when it isn’t installed correctly. 🔥

Here’s what most people don’t realize: charging an EV is a CONTINUOUS load. Your car pulls 32–40 amps for 8+ hours straight, every single night. A dryer plug runs 45 minutes and cools off. These are not the same job.
What kills these outlets:
🔸 Loose terminations — every heat cycle loosens them a little more
🔸 Builder-grade receptacles not built for daily plug/unplug
🔸 Terminals never torqued to spec
🔸 Circuit not sized for a continuous load
It doesn’t fail all at once. It cooks slowly for months until it looks like this.
If you charge at home: touch your plug after an hour of charging. Warm is a warning. Hot is an emergency. Discolored cover, buzzing, or any burnt smell — stop using it and call someone.
Done right, this is a straightforward install: proper conductor sizing, an industrial-grade receptacle (or hardwired), and every lug torqued to the manufacturer’s spec. That’s it. That’s the whole difference between a safe charge and a house fire.
