Behind the scenes of my afternoon design session for a very exciting new website. Hand drawn graphics, paper edges, coffee stains and all around punk rockness will be headed to a screen near you oh so very soon… stay tuned.

My new brand vision required some graphics. There’s no way I’d hand this creative direction to AI. 🤘

Ever added a custom page section background and it just... didn’t show up? 👀

I know why: every page section is actually built from 3 stacked layers: background, border, and content wrapper.

If the higher layers aren’t transparent, your custom coded creation is sitting right there, hidden underneath it.

This is the exact kind of detail that trips people up when they’re vibe coding for Squarespace. AI can write you a gradient section background in two seconds, but it doesn’t know Squarespace’s structure well enough to tell you where it’s hiding.

That’s a knowledge gap Beyond the Basics can close.

Doors close July 21st. Link in bio if you want in before I start with my first wave of students. 🌊

❤️ Save this for your next CSS session.

I made 26 different hero section layouts for Squarespace and they are all live in my site at insidethesquare.co/26

I’ve got a video that I’m about to publish today tha is a walk thru of how to create each and every one, no code required (shocking - I know! 😜)

Check them out and comment below: which one do you love, which one do you loathe, and why?? I’m curious 👀
