Every family has a kid who somehow becomes the expert on one completely random thing. Makes you wonder what else they’d get into if they had more to explore.

In 1988, Isaac Asimov was already thinking about what computers could mean for education.

Asimov was a science fiction writer, biochemistry professor, and one of the most prolific authors of the 20th century. In this interview with Bill Moyers, he argued that learning shouldn’t look the same for every child.

His vision was simple: give people access to information, let them ask questions about what interests them, and allow them to keep learning at their own pace.

He compared it to having a private tutor, something that historically was only available to a small number of families.

This was years before the web became mainstream, and a decade before Google.

Almost 40 years later, the technology he imagined is here.

His thoughts on how we use it for education are worth revisiting.

It's not high school.
It's not middle school.
