Advice to young gymnastic gym owners just starting out:
First: plan your dream. What's your vision 5, 10, 20 years out from now.

Second: start small and manageable. Let the business teach you as you grow, and lean on tools like AI to do what used to take a full front desk staff.

Third: figure out your real gaps… money, location, equipment, and then get connected..

In 2016, Mimi Phene-McKellar opened a second gym. It didn't go how she planned.

Beautiful equipment can't fix a broken foundation.

This happens too many times… kids arriving from other gyms carrying mental blocks that never should've formed. Pushed too fast, too soon, before the fundamentals were ever really taught.

The foundation gets built wrong, and by the time it shows up as fear or burnout, it's already there. Baked in.

This is why fundamentals should be taught like they're sacred, not a box to check before moving kids up levels.

One thing every gym owner should do this week:

Go through this checklist:

âś… Corporate documentation (operating agreements, bylaws, shareholder agreements)
âś…Insurance policy, when did you last review it?
âś… Commercial lease, when does it renew and what's required?
âś… Liability waiver, does it apply to what you're actually doing?
âś… Tuition agreement, is it compliant with consumer protection laws?
âś… Staff agreements, are your people classified correctly?

If you can check everything off and you've reviewed it all in the last six months, you're good.
