Federal cyber authorities just detailed a set of flaws in a heavy truck's brake computer, the unit that runs anti-lock braking, traction control, and stability.

Researchers found memory-corruption bugs and a hard-coded password inside it. In testing, a crafted signal sent over a legacy powerline data bus could knock out ABS, steering assist, the speedometer, and shifting. About 450,000 trucks were in scope.

The fix had already shipped, but quietly, as a safety recall with no security label attached.

Researchers just found the first malware made specifically for the computer in a car's dashboard. It got in through the car's own software update.

On affected Android head units, a legitimate update app quietly installed malware that pulled the dashboard into a proxy botnet. No sketchy download. No driver mistake. The update channel everyone trusts was the way in.

This one was chasing computing power, not the brakes. But it makes the bigger point: the computer inside a vehicle is a real target now, and locking down the office network doesn't cover it. That embedded layer is the hard problem, and it's the one we work on.

China just laid out how it wants to become the world's top cyber power by 2030. Quantum, AI, advanced chips, and cybersecurity are all in the same plan. Not four separate strategies. One.

It's short on specifics, but the message is clear: fuse these technologies into a single national capability, and get research into real, fielded products fast.

But the request came with a warning the Army made about its own tools: a swarm of autonomous agents with network access can turn into a new way in for attackers. So the ask isn't just "faster." It's a master kill switch, an undo button, and a human setting the limits. Building the agent is the easy part. Securing it is the hard one, and that's the problem worth solving.

The targets are internet-exposed Siemens S7 PLCs, the small computers that run water plants, power, and factory lines. NSA, CISA, FBI, DOE, and EPA put out the alert together.

What changed isn't a new flaw. It's that AI now does the hard part, turning public information into a working exploit. So an attacker doesn't need years of specialized training anymore, just a controller they can reach online. The agencies say it's active, and it looks like setup for disruption down the road.

SOCOM just spelled out what it wants from drone autonomy, and it's a good reminder that the aircraft was never the hard part.

The command is asking industry for "decentralized" mission autonomy: drones that coordinate with each other and keep re-planning on their own, even when the radio link is jammed. Today's autonomy, officials say, is locked to single vendors and "highly vulnerable to communications denial in contested electromagnetic environments."

The real frontier is an agent that reasons on the platform, at the edge, with nobody to call home to. That's the kind of hard tech we work on at Red Berry.

GPS is the first thing an adversary jams in a modern fight. Lockheed Martin says the fix is finally leaving the lab.

As prime contractor on the Defense Innovation Unit's quantum sensing program, they're building a navigator that reads motion from individual atoms. It's passive, with nothing for an adversary to jam or spoof.

Federal timelines point to real capability by 2028, and the demonstrations are moving onto real platforms this year.

The physics isn't the hard part. Making something that fragile survive a moving vehicle is. That's the kind of frontier hard tech we build at Red Berry.

Open CISA's list of industrial-control-system advisories and almost every entry says "9.8 — critical." No plant can patch all of them, so in practice nothing gets prioritized.

Here's what a severity score doesn't tell you: it assumes an attacker can already reach the device and has a working exploit. On a factory floor, that assumption is usually the real question.

The same flaw is an emergency if the device is reachable from the office network, and a non-event if it's locked behind a firewall only an engineering station can touch.

The equipment that runs the physical world doesn't patch on a laptop's schedule. You protect it by knowing what's actually reachable and watching how it behaves.

For decades, what really protected a water plant or a power grid wasn't strong security. It was obscurity. Attacking industrial controls took specialized knowledge that only a few people had.

Last week at Black Hat, Google's John Hultquist said that's over: "What protects ICS? More than anything, it's obscurity... That knowledge is simply on tap." Cheap, off-the-shelf AI can now walk an attacker through the system and do the work. So the countries a step below China and Russia, like Iran and North Korea, no longer need the expertise they never built.

Defending the systems that run the physical world is the problem we work on at Red Berry. It just got harder, and a lot more urgent.

Jam a military's GPS and its radars lose more than position. They lose the shared clock that lets them work as one network.

A UK trial from Saab, Aquark and the Royal Navy just showed a way around it. They ran two radars on cold-atom quantum clocks instead of GPS, and the network held one accurate air picture even while the team simulated GPS jamming and spoofing. Saab calls it a world first.

The interesting part isn't a fancier radar. It's the timing layer underneath. A quantum clock keeps near-perfect time with no satellite to jam, so the whole picture stays together through a blackout. That GPS-denied navigation and timing problem is exactly the quantum work we do at Red Berry.
