It is sad to note that Four million children aged under 1 died in 2019, according to the UN and 1.8 million of the deaths occurred in sub-Saharan Africa.
The deaths are largely caused by premature birth, low birth weight, birth defects, problems in pregnancy and malnourishment of the children post their birth. This calls for action from the government, companies, civil society groups and other stakeholders to help reduce the rate of neonatal mortality in the region.
