🚨 You don't have to steal patient information to create a HIPAA problem. Sometimes, simply looking at information you don't need is enough.

That's why the HIPAA Minimum Necessary Rule matters.

Employees should generally access, use, and share only the PHI necessary to do their jobs. Curiosity, convenience, or “I've always had access” isn't the standard.

AI can save time—but copying the wrong information into the wrong tool can create a serious privacy and compliance problem.

Names, dates, clinical details, billing information—even combinations of information that can identify a patient—may be PHI.
