NEW WORK:

流れ Nagare | Flow

I made this little quilt for the 2026 MQG Modern Mini Swap at QuiltCon. Now that the swap is complete, I thought I’d share more about this little quilt.

I made it for Kacie Grossman of the Hudson Valley MQG. We exchanged emails about our design preferences toward the end of last year. I enjoyed learning about Kacie and her former career as a dancer, so I tried to incorporate a dance-like flow to this little quilt.

I started with a little sketch, then planned it out on freezer paper. It’s a mix of planning, and improv. I used mostly contemporary quilting cotton fabrics, but also included some hand-dyed fabric, and even a bit of upholstery fabric for added texture.

It was fun to make, and fun to swap with Kacie! See my earlier post for a view of the little quilt she made for me, which is fantastic.

Swap complete!

I was happily paired with Kacie Grossman of the Hudson Valley MQG for the 2026 MQG Modern Mini Swap at QuiltCon.

Kacie and I met up and swapped our pieces, which was so much fun! Several months ago, we exchanged a few details via email, and today we were able to exchange our creations.

This was my first time participating in the swap, I’m so glad I did! I not only got to make something new and unexpected, but I made a new quilty friend in the process.

Thank you to Kristi Russell for being our swap fairy, and to the Modern Quilt Guild for creating this event each year at QuiltCon.
