Through mentorship, hands-on learning, and knowledge sharing, participants develop skills that prepare them for successful careers while contributing to the mission and goals of Ho-Chunk, Inc.

Congratulations to Tyler Free-LaMere!

Tyler recently performed at FlatFest 2026 at Roca Berry Farm outside Lincoln, Nebraska.

Tyler, an enrolled member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska and current Collegiate Ambassador at Ho-Chunk, Inc., had the opportunity to share the story behind the song and performed it live.

“It’s a reflection of Winnebago/Ho-Chunk resiliency throughout our history."

The lyrics were created in the Ho-Chunk language with help of Hoocąk Academy in Wisconsin.

The lyrics translate to English: “I am from the people of the big/great/sacred voice, no one can take my voice away and my heart is strong.”

Flatwater Free Press is an independent, nonprofit publication of the Nebraska Journalism Trust.
