Think your loved one is calling for emergency bail money? Stop. Cybercriminals are using AI to clone voices from social media to trick you into sending untraceable funds (like gift cards or crypto).

✅ Set a Code Word: Pick a secret word with family that isn't online to verify emergencies.
✅ Verify First: If you get a suspicious call, hang up and call them back on their known number.

We just diagnosed a dead budget laptop that shut off out of nowhere and left behind a strong burnt/chemical smell.

Here’s the breakdown:

The Cause: A total short circuit on the motherboard's main power line.

The Reality: On sub-$300 laptops, power protection is bare-minimum. A tiny power spike or a bit of debris inside the tight USB-C port can cause an electrical arc that literally cooks the board's internal layers.

The Fix: A motherboard replacement costs more than the laptop is worth. Instead of wasting money on a pricey repair, we helped the client pivot to a massive upgrade! A high-performance AMD Ryzen 7 machine under $500 that will easily crush her Steam gaming and Netflix streaming! 🎮🍿

⚠️ Tech Tip: If your device ever smells burnt, do not plug it back in to see if it works. Forcing power into a dead short is a major fire risk.

🎵 [Cue the slow playing of Taps] 🎵

We fought the good fight, but tonight we officially have to say Rest in Peace to this aged MacBook. 🫡💻

It would not boot into the operating system and after two solid evenings of intensive troubleshooting, deep-dive testing, and pulling out all the command-line tricks in the book, we hit the final nail in the coffin. The internal storage drive has physically failed to the point where it completely refuses to even let us run a command to erase the disk.

When the drive refuses to accept a basic wipe command, you know it’s officially reached the end of its lifespan! 🪦

The silver lining? Through all the bench testing, we successfully verified that the client's files are backed up.

Sometimes the best tech support isn't forcing a broken machine to limp along, it’s giving the client an honest, accurate diagnosis so they don't waste money on a temporary fix, and helping them find a reliable upgrade.

I received a text earlier today from my very first client from down the street! She switched internet service providers and was having trouble connecting her printer to her new WiFi through her HP app on her iPhone.
