Here’s a YouTube Cheat Code Blowing Up Small Channels...
Videos over 30 minutes long make up only 39% of all uploads on YouTube, but they pull 82% of total watch time and 70% of total revenue.
That means the longer videos are quietly eating the platform while everyone is fighting over short videos and shorts.
And it makes sense when you think about how people watch YouTube now.
They put a long video on while they cook, while they work, while they go to sleep.
YouTube basically turned into TV.
They earn more than Disney, Paramount, and Warner Bros combined now.
So here’s the cheat code:
If your topic actually deserves a longer video, stop cutting it down.
A 40 minute deep dive will outperform a 6 minute summary on the same topic almost every time.
You also unlock more midroll ads, more time to build connection with the viewer, and a much higher chance of leading them into another one of your videos right after.
Look at your last 5 uploads and ask yourself if you cut things that should have stayed in.
Most creators are leaving views and money on the table by trimming too aggressively.
Source for the data is Little Dot Studios 2026 whitepaper, they analyzed 800+ channels with 930 million subscribers and 11.2 billion monthly views.
