I tell every therapist I work with to add this question: “How did you find me?”

1. This shows you what is working. There are different ways people can find you: word of mouth, Google, AI, psych today.

How do you know what strategies are actually working for you? This question gets you that info. If you don’t do a contact form add it to what they enter when booking a call with you or ask in your consultation with them.

2. Double down on what is working and if it’s a referral source like another business, let them know you appreciate their referrals and send a thank you note.

This is how you gain insight and agency over your practice instead of just having people reach out with no idea what is working and what is not.

This is the type of strategy I help therapists with everyday. If you want clear guidance launching or growing your practice, DM me to get started.

1. I would have your profile focus on solving one specific problem for one person. You have such limited space and characters on a Psychology Today, so focusing in on targeting one problem you help with is best with your profile. One problem, one type of person, one location.

If you have FOMO you can rotate the problem/topic every 3-6 months and track which topic brings the most leads (ie. Grief therapy for women, then perimenopause for women, etc.)

2. Have a professional headshot that is warm and inviting. Clients see a list of TONS of providers and what they see is your picture, your name, and the first two lines of your profile.

You want that picture to count!

Helping therapists optimize and attract more private-pay clients is exactly what my coaching offers.

If you’re tired of guessing and spinning your wheels trying to figure out how to bring in more clients, follow along for more guidance to fill your practice.

It will highlight, magnify and amplify every single one of your relational wounds, because your business is a living and breathing relationship.

Feel like you need to please others to get them to stay? Undervalue yourself? Do you over function in relationships?

You have a relationship with your private practice and it will directly reflect your past relationships and relationship to yourself now.

This is a place to bring curiosity, compassion, and desire. How would you currently rate your relationship to your business?

What would you instead desire your relationship to your practice and your clients to be?

These are all things I support therapists with everyday. Invitation to desire and curiosity around where you’re still living out an old story that doesn’t serve you anymore and how to take action to create change that supports the life you want to live.

DM me “mirror” to receive a private practice relationship audit guide.

1. Get crystal clear on an ideal client you want to attract to your practice by choosing a niche. This is the fastest way to grow your practice.

You become the go to for that type of client and you are more memorable when you are specialized in helping a particular problem. It also helps your website speak directly to that person’s struggle.

2. Build a website and psych today that target that niche and clearly speak to that particular clients struggles and the outcomes they can experience from working with you.

3. Focus on building community and relationships that have depth and consistency and relevance. If you specialize in perinatal mental health get to know a doula and perinatal massage therapist.

4. Sublease an office even just one day a week. This helps give you an address so you can create a Google Business profile that helps your SEO, AEO and online presence. It also might be a reason someone chooses you over another option online.

5. SEO and AEO help people find you from a search. If you have a brand new website it can take time for Google to trust and refer to you which is why a Google Business profile helps you grow an online presence much faster.

I followed these exact things and filled my practice in four months as an associate. It took marketing and networking strategy and putting myself out there even when I felt imposter syndrome and uncertainty.

There are clients out there that are looking for you. Make sure you are visible for them to see you!

Before clients can book an appointment with you they need to find you.

What area feels most doable for you to focus your energy on right now?

Instead of spreading yourself thin do 1-2 of these strategically and with your full focus and effort.

If you feel stuck or unsure where to start with getting more clients, this is exactly what I teach in Aligned Private-Pay Academy. DM to learn more.

If you feel lost where to begin with improving your marketing, look at these four phases.

Audit each one of these to see where you are missing out or losing potential clients.

Phase 1: They need to find you.

This can come from: Word of mouth referrals, psychology today, Google Business profile, SEO/AEO

If you notice on your website analytics that visitor count is low, then work on improving these areas so people know about you and find you.

Phase 2: They need to resonate enough with your website to book a consultation (or appointment if you don’t do consults).

If you see a good amount of visitors on your website and Psych Today profile, but you’re not getting calls then redo it. Make sure you are speaking directly to them with “you” language and clear about who you help and how you help them.

Phase 3: Once they book a consultation they need to trust you enough to move into being a client.

If you are struggling to convert consultation calls, audit how you do those. These are a form of a sales call. Do you clearly connect with their pain and problem? Do you have a clear framework to help them see how you can guide them to where they want to go?

Phase 4: The work you do together needs to be helpful and resonate with their desired outcomes so that you retain clients that are a good fit.

If you have a lot of people start and end therapy without staying for long (not because they got what they wanted but ending early). Audit the work you do, consult to get feedback, get supervision to see what you can improve with client care.

These are the four phases to look at, see where you are losing or missing out on clients and focus on fixing that phase first.

If you want help with this, send me a message.

Where do you want to be one year from now?

If you stay focused on future you one year from now what would you hope their life is like?

This can support your body and mind when taking action feels hard. Six months can easily pass and you’ve done nothing to move toward your goal.

When you stay focused on you a year from now it helps your brain tune into your goal. And for me personally I don’t want to live with regret, so I find it very motivating.

Here is how you can support yourself to take the next step:

1. Physically slow down to help your body know you are okay. Slow walk, take a breathe, small acts of slowing down.
2. Seek out connection or guidance from someone to journey with you and cheer you on.
3. Stay focused on where you want to be a year from now when taking action feels hard.

Building a practice is possible for you, but it can’t happen if you never start. You can do this!

This is one of the biggest blocks I see therapists have. They have marketing strategy and all the tools they need, but they feel guilt and worry about what colleagues will think or what other therapists will say.

I hear you. And the longer I work with therapists the more it reminds me of working with religious trauma and eating disorders where someone is living their life based on external rules, pressure, and expectations that then becomes their internal compass.

You have a body, a mind, a life. You also have internal wisdom inside of you.

How you build and run your practice impacts your finances, bills, and the life you live outside of work.

No one else is living your life but you.

So, an invitation to slow down and notice whether something is coming from inside of you or an external expectation that you’ve since taken in.

Running a business is hard work and slowing down to listen to yourself as you decide and choose the systems you need is vital for this to be sustainable and supporting your life instead of taking from it.

Spend less time stressed out about trying to impress clients and more time thinking about how to connect with them on your website.

What language do they use to share about their struggles?

What photos and words communicate your work so someone knows what it feels like to sit with you?
