This Creature Feature feels extra special to me 🤍🐎
Growing up, my oldest sister Ana had horses, and so many of my childhood memories were spent watching her ride and show horses.
Her favorite horse was an Appaloosa named Doris and she looked so much like this one. Even down to the white nose 🤍 I actually used a photo of Doris’s nose while painting this piece, which made the process feel incredibly personal.
Ana used to proudly tell everyone, “This is my Appaloosa… but she doesn’t have spots” 😂🤍 She loved that horse so much, and painting this brought back so many memories of watching her ride growing up.
For those who have followed my work for a while, you’ve probably heard me talk about Ana before. She’s a huge reason why I paint animals and such a big part of the fire behind this entire business. While she’s no longer here, her spirit absolutely lives on through my brush, through these paintings, and through the joy and meaning behind what I create.
This one became so much more than just a painting on canvas. In so many ways, this piece feels like home to me ♥️
