When you realize your partner thinks their credit card is their emergency fund…

Listen, we’ve all been there. But here’s the thing: credit cards ≠ emergency funds. Using them as a backup plan can lead to high-interest debt that makes financial stress even worse.

✅ Instead, build a real emergency fund … even if you start small. A little cushion (think: 3-6 months of expenses) can be the difference between a setback and a full-blown crisis.

Plenty Financial was featured on ! 🎉💸 Our founder, Emily Luk, shared insights on how to successfully combine finances as a couple, because love and money don’t have to be a struggle.

💡 Her biggest takeaway?
“No two couples are ever the same, but a really important place to start is actually before you even talk about how you want to merge money, really focusing first on what [conversations around money were] like growing up?” She explains, “That foundation is really important to make it easier to understand your partner, or else it makes all the other conversations so much more complicated and more likely for you to fight.”

Money isn’t just about numbers, it’s history, habits, and emotions. Getting on the same page starts with understanding where you both come from.

💔 Roses are red, violets are blue, my bank account is crying, how about you?

If Valentine’s Week did a little too much damage to your budget, don’t stress - here’s how to get back on track together:

1️⃣ Check the receipts (literally)
Before the panic sets in, take a look at what you actually spent. Was it all necessary? Or did the heart-shaped impulse buys get you? Reviewing it together = no surprises later.

2️⃣ Set a game plan
Decide on a mini “financial detox” for the next few weeks—maybe that means a few more home-cooked meals 🍽️ or pausing unnecessary purchases. Little shifts now = a smoother recovery.

3️⃣ Learn for next time
Love is priceless, but a $200 prix fixe dinner isn’t. If Valentine’s spending caught you off guard, set up a sinking fund for date nights so future-you isn’t blindsided.

💰💍 Would you delay marriage because of debt?

A recent article from PopSugar dives into how financial stress is leading some couples to hold off on marriage until they feel more secure. With the rising cost of living and student loan debt at an all-time high, it’s no surprise that money is a big factor in making it official.

What do you think?

Money conversations can be tricky, but they’re essential for healthy relationships.

In this episode of Love & other assets, Esther Perel explores the emotional weight of managing money in relationships:

✨ Who decides what’s a “necessary” vs. “fluffy” purchase?
✨ How do shared and individual spending priorities affect trust?
✨ And most importantly—are you and your partner living by the same principles when it comes to finances?

It’s not about pointing fingers; it’s about creating space for honest, productive conversations. Because thriving relationships are built on shared responsibility, not silent resentment.
