If your department is looking at AI report writing, write the policy first. The law already covers part of it. California SB 524 and Utah SB 180 are both on the books. In California, an AI assisted report needs a written disclosure on every page, the first AI draft kept on file, and the signature of the officer who prepared it.

An officer still reads the report and approves it. The policy is what makes that review hold up when the report reaches the district attorney.
