The Greatest Album Covers That Never Were
This was one of those fun projects that I really got into. In 2003, I got a call from Craig Butler and Michael Ochs, Craig explains the project... he wants to get the top album illustrators together and have them pick their favorite group and do an album cover with total freedom—no Art Directors, no censorship—total freedom guaranteed. In the previous decade, many of the companies especially in the music industry had let their top Art Directors go to save money. What replaced these directors were either junior level staff or people with little experience. Design was by committee and controlled by the bean counters. I was also part of the amazing design team that designed the actual book cover art for the book, merch and website.
I picked Ozzy Osbourne, plus I did the show cover and merchandise. The opening show was a huge hit and toured the world for over two years culminating at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame invited a select few to speak at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame including Craig Butler, Michael Ochs, John Van Hammersfield, Anita Kunz and Marc Burckhardt. It was a lot of fun spending time other extraordinary artists.
It was ironic that I returned to the place I was born, Ohio some 30 or so years later being honored at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Yeah, it is a long way to the top if you want to rock ‘n’ roll, yeah 30 years later!!
Track 16 Gallery, Los Angeles California, 2003
Track 16 was a blast not only did my posse show up but I had my favorite girl with me, the talented and beautiful Jo-Anne Redwood. It was also great seeing people I haven’t seen in years and really fun location was fun doing the panel question answers afterward also.
