Aadam Jacobs is a key figure in the Chicago music scene, celebrated for his extensive collection of live audio recordings from the 1980s to the 2000s. Known as “Chicago’s Taping Guy,” he captured around 30,000 separate performances, including early shows by notable bands like The Flaming Lips , Mogwai , Wilco , Sonic Youth , R.E.M. , SLINT , Björk to name drop just a few. These recordings, from Chicago’s iconic rock venues, represent a significant archive of the city’s musical (not to mention 80’s-90’s alternative music) history. This amazing collection is being digitized by a team of volunteers in partnership with the Live Music Archive at the Internet Archive where the full concerts are accessible for playback and download.

As is our pirate radio nature and with the pure intent that airing some of this extraordinary content will accelerate interest and support for the amazing resource that is the Internet Archive, ElectroMagnetic Radio will air one recording from the Collection each Friday night at 8pm Pacific Time / 11pm Eastern Time / 3:00 UTC for your listening pleasure.

Hi friends, I’m stoked to announce a new broadcast project, dropping weekly on Sundays at 10am eastern on Electromagnetic radio, launching this Sunday April 14th. Please join me for Bad at Goodbyes. Each week on Bad at Goodbyes we spotlight species from the IUCN Critically Endangered Red List, plants and animals near the edge of extinction. We’ll share species details, research and conservation information, and then spend the bulk of the show creating an original, kind of elegiac soundbath, a space for contemplation and self-reflection and mourning. It’s unlikely that these species will survive the 21st century, so perhaps we might acknowledge their passage with a moment of our attention, a recognition of our kinship, and with a commitment to personal and systemic change. Tune in Sundays at em-radio.com. Thank you for listening.
