What brushes do I use?? All of them 👀

This is a question I get asked often, and it’s not one I can blindly answer. With each comment, I have to go back to the video to see what brush I happen to be holding. Yes, some brands make really good brushes, but sometimes the brush I want to use is the one at the bottom of my bin, the one I’ve taped back together, or whatever one happens to be clean AND within reach! It also depends on what I’m actually painting… which varies from a wall to shoes, skateboards, surfboards, canvases, and more.

Zibra: Puts the paint on thicc and pulls smoooooth lines! Their medium brush set has become a favorite of mine for linework; I also have a bunch of their square 1” but they’re in my mural bin!

Regular Ole House Brushes: These are consistent and dependable, and I mostly use them for edges, to fill large spaces, or during the prep/priming process.

Even if the handle gets chewed on by a dog, I’ll still use it because the bristles are nice and worn in.

Angelus: I mostly use these for smaller details in murals, acrylic paintings, or for linework! I hold the brushes like a pencil and let the width of the brush determine the size of the line.

Bates Choice: I mostly use the smaller sizes that come in a pack of three, great for adding clean details. The tip comes to a nice point but also holds a lot of paint. They’re pretty affordable and I’ve used these brushes to paint bird feathers. I just discovered that you can get the handles in a color other than yellow💛✨

Miscellaneous: These are brushes I’ve had forever! Some are a Michaels Zen brand, Master’s Touch, or from those packs of brushes from craft stores.

This is the brush I used for linework on my recent basketball player murals. I don’t know what brand it is, and it’s so old the handle is taped together and has a curve!

Office mural for Angelus ⭐️👟🫟🐝🍃✨

If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll recognize this as the paint brand I recommend for custom shoe art, except last week I got to use it on their own walls! They’ve always been a great product and company to work with, so this was such an amazing opportunity!! The design comes from the kind of art I’ve painted on shoes over the years, mixed in with Angelus paint bottles as characters. It features shapes of items you can customize with their paint like shoes, hats, shirts, sports balls, (walls) and more, along with nature elements and a fun color palette. The paint bottles interact with the space in different ways, like helping each other inspect the water valve and paint various parts of the mural.

The front portion of their office is also a store, so you can see the mural anytime! The rest of it runs along their main office wall behind some of their desks and ends on the corner wall with their logo. This wall leads to additional office space and can also be seen from where you shop. I hope this brings customers and staff joy every day!!

This was my largest mural to date (which is something I’ll never get tired of saying), so thanks as always to my dad for helping me prep the wall, including patching holes and taping off all our edges. And a special thanks to Emily Uhrhammer Art for helping me knock this out in 5 days!! She’s helped me on a few painting projects now, and I know she was just happy to be indoors this time 😅🥹
