What actually drives the price of a camera system, roughly in order:

Cable runs. Not the cameras — the labor of getting a line from every position back to the recorder, and whether the building lets us hide it. That's most of the job and most of the cost.

Retention. Thirty days of 4K across twelve cameras needs a lot more drive than a week across four.

And how many positions genuinely need identification-grade detail versus general coverage. Not every angle does, and pretending otherwise just runs the number up.

Retail shrink is rarely dramatic.

It's almost never somebody running out the door with an armful. It's small, repeated, and internal often enough that owners are uncomfortable putting it on the list of possibilities.

Which is exactly why coverage over the register, the stock room and the back door matters more than a camera aimed at the sales floor. The floor is where you watch. Those three are where the answers usually are.

We don't leave until you can use it.

That sounds like a small thing. It isn't. We've walked into plenty of buildings with a perfectly good camera system where nobody currently working there knows how to pull a clip off it, because the installer handed over a password and drove away.

So the last part of every job is sitting down with you and the app until you can find a camera, scroll back to a time, and export something. However long that takes.

The question nobody asks until it's too late: how many days of footage does your system actually keep?

A lot of installs default to something short — a week, sometimes less — and nobody ever changes it. Then something turns up on a statement or an invoice six weeks later, you go looking, and it's already been written over.

Retention comes down to drive size, camera count and resolution. Worth deciding deliberately at install rather than inheriting a default.

Landlords ask us a version of this constantly: can I put cameras on a rental?

Short answer — exterior and shared areas are generally fine. Inside a tenant's unit is a different matter entirely, and not something we'll install.

The setup that actually works is coverage of entrances, parking and shared space, with the recorder somewhere only you can reach. Protects the building, gives you a record in a dispute, and keeps you on the right side of a tenant's privacy.

If you only put up four cameras, here's where they go.

The front door approach, angled so you see people arriving rather than the tops of their heads. The driveway or parking area, angled for plates. The back or side entrance nobody watches — that's where most actual entries happen. And wherever the valuable things are kept, whether that's a stock room or a garage.

Almost every good system starts with those four and grows outward from there.

Not everything we do involves cameras.

TV mounting, wire concealment, networking, Wi-Fi, A/V. Most of it started because customers kept asking while we were already on site with a ladder and a fish tape — and it turns out hiding a TV cable is the same skill as hiding a camera cable.

If you've got a wall-mount job, or a network that won't reach the back of the house, ask us while we're out there.

Why we put 4K on nearly every quote:

Resolution isn't about how pretty the picture looks. It's about how far away something can be and still be identifiable.

At 1080p, a face thirty feet from the camera is a smudge. At 4K it's a face. That difference is the entire reason you have the camera — footage that can't identify anybody is a record that something happened, not evidence of who did it.

It costs a bit more up front. It's the point we'd argue hardest about.

Detached shop, barn, or a garage across the yard with no cable running to it?

You don't necessarily have to trench the whole distance. A wireless bridge puts a network link between the two buildings, and once that's in place the cameras on the far side behave like any other camera on the system — recording back to the same NVR, same app, same footage.

It's one of the more common things we get asked about, and one of the easier problems to solve.

"Can you even get a camera up there?"

Usually, yes. We've run lines through attics with no real access, across rooflines, out to detached shops, and up into trees to cover a driveway. The odd placements are most of what makes a system actually useful instead of just present.

We also do TV mounting, networking and Wi-Fi bridges, and A/V — most of that started because customers kept asking while we were already on site.

If you've got a spot you assume is impossible, ask us. We like those.
