Here’s a mural I finished recently in an orthopedic surgery suite (in the same hospital that has the original dental chart mural.)
This took a long time. Too long in my opinion, but I have very high standards and am very particular when it comes to reference art like this. I wanted it to be reliable. So it had to be just right.
And let me just tell you how hard it is to find reliable reference photos for skeletal, nervous AND vascular anatomy. No two textbook photos appear the same. I ended up using an actual radiograph of a dog to get the bone structure to my liking. And on more than one occasion I was met with a blank stare or nervous chuckle when I asked a veterinarian about the exact placement of the ligaments in the stifle. I had to reconsider what “perfect” anatomy looked like. Is there really such a thing?
Nevertheless, I’m relatively satisfied with the outcome.
