This stunning Marantz 2325 just needed a check up. The customer bought it from someone claiming it was totally restored. He wanted me to check out the work done and make sure it was good to go. Fortunately there was an extensive restoration done and all the work was well executed. Many times customers bring me gear that was supposedly "restored", only to find out a couple parts were changed, or worse that someone had done some real hack work or made some questionable modifications. Luckily for the customer this wasn't one of those times.

This beautiful Pioneer SX636 had a dead channel. The customer just wanted it fixed, not a full resto. The dead channel was due to one little bad capacitor. I let it play for a few days and sent it back to the customer. However he called a few days later and it was crackling (fortunately he lives 5 mins. away). I then found bad transistors on the amplifier board and after letting it play for several hours, more bad transistors showed up on the phono board (crackling/static sounds). The fact is that this equipment is 50+ yrs. old and sometimes after fixing one little problem another will show up soon after. Typically I prefer to do full restorations, changing out all known problematic transistors and capacitors but I realize that is not always economically or practically feasible for all customers.

Marantz 2245 came in with one dead channel. It was originally in a wooden case and when the case was removed the customer used the original long screws for the feet. The front right screw was shorting out the wires on the headphone jack , causing the dead channel. Sometimes it's just a simple fix!
