AI is making phishing scams harder to spot. Familiar branding, convincing language and a sense of urgency can make a suspicious message feel believable.

The bait may look different now, but the hook is the same.

Before you click or respond:

• Question unexpected urgency or pressure
• Check the sender and inspect links carefully
• Verify sensitive requests through another trusted channel
• Use multi-factor authentication so a stolen password isn’t enough

Last week, a group called ShinyHunters claimed it stole 2–3 terabytes of FBI data: employee addresses, Social Security numbers, and applicant records...

The alleged way in? The FBI's online jobs portal.

This week, the hackers announced they'll never publish the data.

But they also admitted something important.

They can't control what happens to the sample they already handed out.

That's the part every business owner should think about.

Better cybersecurity doesn’t always start with a bigger budget. Sometimes, it starts with making better use of what you already have.

A few basics can make a meaningful difference:

• Enable multi-factor authentication wherever it’s available
• Remove inactive accounts for former employees and vendors
• Limit administrator access to those who truly need it
• Turn on automatic updates for devices and key applications
• Use a password manager to reduce weak and reused passwords
• Test your backups to make sure they can be restored when needed
