I want to talk about something that might sound crazy coming from a business owner.

Being fair and honest matters more to me than making money. 💙

I mean that with everything I have.

I have been in sales and marketing for over 35 years. I have seen every trick in the book. The bait and switch. The hidden fees. The long term contracts designed to trap people. The upsells that never end. The websites built under someone else's name so the client can never leave.

I chose a long time ago that was never going to be me.

Because here is what I know to be true after 35 years in this industry 👇

Quick question for you.

Who actually owns your online presence?

Not who manages it. Who OWNS it.

Here is what we see all the time with small businesses in Central Ohio:

🔹 One company bought your domain name and it is in THEIR name
🔹 A second company built your website and holds the login
🔹 A third company "claimed" your Google Business Profile

Three companies. Three logins. None of them yours.

Then one of them goes out of business, or you decide to move on, and suddenly you cannot get to your own stuff.

Here is how to take it all back.

1. Look up your domain. Search "ICANN lookup" and type in your website address. The registrant listed should be YOU or your business, not a vendor.

2. Get the registrar login. GoDaddy, Namecheap, whoever it is. The account email should be YOUR email.

3. Own the website account. Weebly, Wix, Squarespace, WordPress. Your name. Your email. Your credit card if possible.

4. Claim your Google Business Profile. Go to google.com/business and request ownership. If someone else has it, Google gives you a transfer request process. It takes about a week.

5. Be the admin on your own social pages. Not a "contributor." Admin.

6. Write it all down. One document. Every platform, every login, every renewal date.

That is it. Boring, but it protects everything you have built.
