Sadly, Retrograde will no longer be affiliated with the Pittsburgh Gaming Expo. We wish them the best of luck on all their future endeavors!

After careful consideration, we have made the decision to discontinue our affiliation with the Pittsburgh Gaming Expo.

Our experience during the 2025 Expo did not meet our expectations. Several agreed-upon terms were not fulfilled, which had a direct and significant impact on the overall experience of the show, and on our ability to effectively engage with attendees. Additionally, internal challenges among event organizers contributed to operational inconsistencies that ultimately affected both the attendee experience and the overall quality and ex*****on of the event.

Following the show, changes made to key operational staff have raised further concerns regarding continuity, accountability, and the long-term stability of the event. Rather than addressing underlying issues in a transparent and constructive manner, these shifts created uncertainty about how future events would be managed and improved. As a result, we do not feel confident in the event's ability to deliver the level of organization, communication, and attendee-focus that we require in our partnerships moving forward.

We believe in strong partnerships that are built on organization, accountability, and consistent ex*****on. At this time, we do not feel confident that our expectations in these areas are aligned, and as a result, we have chosen to move in a different direction.

We remain committed to supporting and participating in events that provide a high-quality experience for both players and partners, and we look forward to future opportunities that reflect those standards.

And seven days a week, to boot. Our shelves are a little bit empty so it's a BUYING DAY and Jim is itching to get some new product, if only to ensure that Alex can't see where he's walking.

Retrograde is No More. Long Live Retrograde.
Well. Kinda. The real answer is way better.

TL;DR: Beginning January 30th, Retrograde is joining the Feisty Goblin in an official capacity, and will be fully (and properly) open moving forward. With real-life, human hours and a crew to help keep it operating for real people who actually want to come here.

But if you want the standard, long-winded Retrograde ramble-posting: Hey y'all! I have to come clean. Months of being half-open, sounding like a local band saying "big things coming,” and “I swear, we’re working on it–” and then just going quiet? It can’t continue to be the way to operate this thing. It hasn’t been an intentional excuse. It’s that reopening in any kind of viable state has just been way harder than I figured it would be.

It's easy to open. It's even somewhat easy to reopen.

But the third time has NOT been the charm. And with that, since I've finally been able to recognize my exhaustion and other shortcomings- starting on January 30th, Retrograde is officially becoming part of The Feisty Goblin.

The Retrograde community deserves something better than half-measures. This might sound like the last thing some weird, indie-store proprietor would want, but I am genuinely jazzed for the potential this represents.

For the past 8-plus years (good god, THAT LONG!?) I have done everything in my power to keep this thing upright, and provide an awesome place for the community to buy and sell their games, to geek out about the dorkiest topics imaginable, and frankly– I’ve done a terrible job of it.

Sure, I’ve put the time and effort in, but bad luck, destructive mental health, and just so many silly problems never failed to crop up. I have wanted to give up and quit thousands of times, but I never wanted to risk letting this vibrant and awesome community down.

But after so many problems, the thing I loved the most had become a bit of a hostage situation.

Last year, in an effort to throw out a life preserver to a floundering moron, the wonderful folks at The Feisty Goblin provided me some space in one of their vaults to get the shop back up on its feet. But it was still a miserable, solo effort and I’m not as capable of handling it as I used to be. Plus y’all already know I’m AWFUL at accepting help. And so, to survive at all, I was forced to migrate it back to being a hobby instead of the amazing community hub that it was, and frankly, you all deserved more than being only able to show up when I could spare the time. Dealing with so much miserable nonsense made me jaded, and I was genuinely trying to figure out how to close it down without letting anyone down.

Until now.

I will still be around and working with the Goblin for the foreseeable future, which means I will still be helping to guide Retrograde with the same ethos it’s always had. I just can’t do it alone anymore and when you find folks who have the same commitment to community-building that you do, you don’t disregard that potential. This place provided a shelter for this glorious retail experiment when I was at my lowest and there is no one on the planet I’d trust to try and foster this wonderful thing into the future.

And since I’m not exactly the only one in charge of decision-making, I can’t unmake this plan if I want to.

This will be our last show at Steel City Con for the foreseeable future- we’ve made some lifetime friends because of this show and we’ll always love it but scheduling has a way of, well- getting in the way.

If you want to pay us a visit at our last hurrah, tomorrow will be the last chance. We’re thrilled for SCO’s future and have no ill-will but we’re not sure when we’ll be able to return.

Hey gang, I won't be at the shop today due to being dummy sick.

Explanation: I haven't really talked about it much, but the move last year put me in a pretty bad place, and in the midst of all of it- our HVAC system went out, so my house, thanks to the insulation/construction is often like 10-15 degrees hotter than outside.

This has led to a whole heap of misery, and in my case- sleeplessness. Last night I slept like 2 hours, and woke up sick as a dog (and several times in the past few weeks, thanks to the heat-wave of it all, to explain some of my other frustrating absences)

We have the work in progress (hopefully) but I'm not sure the turnaround on it. I'm just tired of being miserable and incapable of thinking straight.

We'll catch up soon.
