We've all heard "give before you get", but in the home improvement industry, we traditionally don't listen to these words of wisdom.

Whether it's forcing an in-home or in-showroom visit before sharing pricing, or, even worse, making them pay a design fee or trip charge, it leaves a bad taste for many potential customers.

When 70% of kitchen designs end in no sale, it might seem obvious to use these tactics to filter out the tire-kickers. But Lowe's has found it does more than just deter tire kickers - it's an outright turnoff to well-qualified buyers.

What the 250+ Lowe's Canada, Rona, and Reno Depot locations have discovered is that a two-step quoting process = 2x the trust. In other words, let the customer get the initial quote on their own and then have the store associates meet them there to finalize it.

By giving a more inclusive experience that meets customers where they feel comfortable, they are getting a healthy double-digit lift in the entire countertop program, with over 30% of leads attaching full drawings with their quote. For this program and many just like it, in the giving was the getting. And those are life values and business outcomes that we are happy to stand behind.
