x TSMC Technical Development Workshop
The Georgia Tech Society of Women Engineers was thrilled to host Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for a Technical Development Workshop on Thursday, January 21st!

This event provided a deep dive into the booming semiconductor industry, giving SWEeties a firsthand look at how the chips powering our world are designed and manufactured. Members had the unique opportunity to learn from the world’s leading semiconductor foundry, gaining technical insights and the future of high-performance computing. We are especially grateful to Pauline Lam, Szu-Wei (Vivian) Tung, and Matthew Luong for guiding our members through the complexities of the industry and offering their expert advice on navigating a career at TSMC

In 2020, TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) decided to build its first advanced semiconductor factory in Phoenix, Arizona. The plans include six chip factories, two packaging facilities, and a research center. This means there are many technician roles to fill!

TSMC Arizona will provide on-the-job training – no bachelor’s degree or previous microchip experience is required. Tech trainees receive great pay, benefits, and paid time off starting on their first day!

By tackling the growing demand for Tetramethyl Ammonium Hydroxide (TMAH) in advanced manufacturing, we collaborated with our supplier to enhance filter cleaning processes. This breakthrough not only extends filter lifetimes but significantly reduces waste chemical discharge.

📊 Impact by the Numbers as of July 2025:
✔️ 431 filter units saved annually
✔️ 2,580 tons of waste chemical discharge reduced
