PRESS START was a fantastic success!

First and foremost, a big thanks to everyone who was involved including the other clubs who were collaborating with us to get this done. VGA (Video Game Alliance) was there to man our SGA funded Food Table and to create what was essentially a chill pad for the participants to clear their head and unwind at. M.A.S.S also participated, bringing in a few members who were able to help out here and there.

The theme for PRESS START was "MONSTER". It was randomly selected from a pool of themes we created for the event. We had 4 teams of people working on games; Team onE (pronounced Onee-san), Team Gold, Team Tenebris and The Number Seven.

Team onE composed of Andrea Martinez, William Howtoon Tennis and the homie Alexis Ulloa Nunez. The game they came up with was titled "Zombie Harambe". This was a 3D Top-Down Shooter with an arcade vibe. You're playing as a boy and a gorilla who are fighting to survive an endless hoard of zombies to see how big of a high score you can get for taking them down. It was made in the Unity engine with pre-made assets.

Team Gold had Megan Gossett, Adrion and Jesse. Initially, it was only the former two and they came up with the game "Mechomine". This is a 2D Action Side-Scroller game where you play as a scientist in his laboratory. His studies have gone awry and he has to keep his experiments in check. It was intended to have a feature where you can transform between human and monster modes to overcome whatever the lab throws at you. It was also made in Game Maker using character sprites, sound effects and even music that Megan made.

Team Tenebris was formed between Josh Lyle and Tyler Kess. While they were first a duo, our member Johnny stepped in to make them a 3-man team. They came up with their game "Tenebris Exitus" which is a 2D Side-Scroller Thriller game. You're a shrouded figure traveling through a dark forest (and I mean pitch black) with nothing but a lantern to show you the way. Over time, your field of vision shrinks and you have to replenish the lantern before you're left completely in the dark. It was made in Unity by Tyler with assets made by Tyler.

The Number Seven was something of a wildcard team composing of Nate and two friends he brought with him (Krafty and ). Their game was titled "The Monster 7" and was a 2D RPG where you play as the number 0 in a small town full of other monsters who look like numbers. The game was a murder mystery in which you had to figure out who killed 9 by talking to everyone else around you. Done with Game Maker engine, it combined their own original character sprites with. They used Tiled to make their background designs.

All 4 of the teams worked valiantly and efficiently. In the end, we held an anonymous vote among all the participants AND the club members. Team Tenebris' "Tenebris Exitus" won the competition!

PRESS START was a huge success and we hope this can become an annual event! So once again, thank you to everyone who participated both inside the club and out. Thank you to VGA and to MASS.

Hello Hello!
Secretary of Offense and Vice President David Perdue reporting for some steamy duty.

There have not been a lot of updates lately, no, but we have been working our tails off over the break and it has paid off last night. ARGOS NIGHT OUT was a success.

The Arcade Cabinet I made was refurbished and pimped out in some sweet Destroyster paint to show off the Gemini Labs Boss Rush game. Although we had a very rough time with technical difficulties setting up the game, in the end we DID have it playable during the event for at least a good 3 hours of the event! People checked it out and the responses are largely positive!

Next thing on our list is PRESS START but, in the meantime, have a look at the Destroyster Arcade.

Over and Out!
