I just wanted to update you on my meeting with the publishing company this morning...
There was a lot of information to process, and I was sent a lot of reading material about the company, its processes, and what I could expect if I chose to work with them. I haven't ever been a part of any meeting like that, and I was caught off guard when they began the meeting by introducing themselves. There were two of them. April would be my 'agent,' and Mark would be the 'producer'. I have never heard of a book having a 'producer' before, but some do. Then, before I could process that information, April asked me to check my email and confirm that I had received a copy of the 'contract' they had just signed and sent over to me. Then I was thrown for a loop, an agent (which most authors have a writer's agent, okay, that's normal), and a producer already sent me a CONTRACT? I almost hung up on them right then, thinking nope, these people are either trying to scam me in some way, or they are getting some kind of sick kick out of just screwing around with people for fun. But I didn't hang up, I checked my email and was surprised to find they had sent me an actual contract, but not one that was an agreement for us to work together, it was a Non-Disclosure Agreement, which some of you might know as what is commonly referred to as an NDA, which means they are agreeing to speak with me and possibly even get access to my entire manuscript without me having to worry about them stealing it, using it, using a similar version of it, or even leaking it... in other words, it's to protect me and my work from monetary harm by allowing them access to all of it.
Anyway, I ended up thanking them for reaching out to me. I assured them that I would be going over all the information they sent me today, praying about it, and discussing it with my husband. We will meet again next week, and I will let them know where I stand, and that will determine where we go from here.
Please pray for me to have the clarity of knowing that whatever decision I make on this will not be made to satisfy the will of my own desires but to make my decision based on what God wants for me to do. After all, this is all HIS plan, and I'm just following along, trying to keep my eyes trained on where He is leading me!
