Recently, there have been cases across Florida involving a fraud scheme in which the victim receives a pop-up on their computer that appears to be from Microsoft. The alert states the computer has been compromised and has a number to call. The scammer tells the victim to pay to have it removed by purchasing gift cards. This is a scam. Microsoft website states, ”Microsoft does not send unsolicited email messages or make unsolicited phone calls to request personal or financial information, or to fix your computer. Any communication with Microsoft has to be initiated by you. Don't call the number in the pop-ups.”
