Another day, another power cut. How do you plan for power cuts when the schedule changes every day? Ekata.lk to the rescue! Ekata.lk provides personalized, real-time information on power cut schedules, delivered via SMS for free.

Hack for the Globe launched its KICK OFF event this weekend.

The group attracted programmers from 5 different countries at the Stanford University campus.

During the 24 hour long collaborative hackathon, participants spoke to about 20 Sri Lanka to identify the most critical problems.

Based on the interviews, they developed an end to end, an easy to use application addressing two major issues.

Power cuts;
1. Lack of centralized forums to receive accurate information about power cuts schedules.

Fuel shortage;
2. Lack of information about where and what type of fuel is available.

Hack for Sri Lanka Hackathon was a huge success. Within 24 hours the Stanford/ international team conceptualized the crisis in Sri Lanka, spoke to tens of Sri Lankans through focus group interviews and developed a data drive end to end application to help Sri Lankans.
