Art & Craft Beer: Who Knew They Went Together?

The OCMA / Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) may not be physically open right now, but that doesn't mean there aren't interesting art projects being created. In fact, OCMA releases a new interactive art event each week to keep art lovers connected.

OCMA's latest interactive art project will teach you simple embossing techniques to create a special, personally-crafted metallic hanging. Led by teaching artist Elizabeth Cardenas, this creative online exploration draws inspiration from concepts of craft and labor in Allan Sekula's photograph from OCMA's collection Dockers Unloading Sugar Ship.

Supplies for this project will be available free of charge beginning on Thursday (August 6th) at the Green Cheek Beer Company drive-thru in Costa Mesa. In addition to picking up the free art pack, you will also receive a 10% discount on a 4-pack of any craft brew purchased at the drive-thru. (No purchase is necessary to pick up the free art pack.)

The art class will be held online the following Thursday (August 13th).

OC creatives — join us for Watercooler today at 3PM for a conversation with one of our community leaders, Chris Wright ().
Watercooler is a twice-weekly video chat hosted on ’s Slack channel. Our Slack channel is free to join, open to all and a link is in our bio. The call will be started by our chapter leaders at 3PM — just click “Join” and you’re in!
Chris will share his personal journey as a creative as well as his experience as an educator and a father, touching on how race, diversity and inclusion and the Black experience has influenced these roles in his life.
[About Chris] Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Chris relocated to Florida pursuing a career as a graphic designer. He quickly realized that his greatest impact to the graphic design industry could be made in the classroom. Chris recently migrated from Florida to the Inland Empire to continue fulfilling his purpose as an educator, passing on the vast design knowledge he gained working with youth groups, non-profit organizations and Fortune 500 companies. Chris received his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University () and an MA and MFA from Savannah College of Art and Design (). He finds absolute joy in helping students navigate through their creative journey. His personal mantra: Mentor. Mold. Motivate. Chris currently serves as Assistant Professor of Graphic Design and Visual Experience at California Baptist University (). Yearning to get involved in the creative community, Chris joined the AIGA OC, started the CBU student group (.cbu) and now serves as our Director of Education.
