How can employers improve the hiring process?

Start with the moments candidates notice most.

You don’t necessarily need to redesign the entire recruiting operation.

Three improvements can make a meaningful difference:

1. Communicate clearly
Tell candidates what the process looks like, what comes next, and when they should expect to hear from you.

2. Make decisions faster
Look for unnecessary gaps between interviews, feedback, approvals, and offers.

3. Respect the candidate’s time
Every interview, assignment, and conversation should have a clear purpose.

Candidates understand that hiring takes time.

What creates frustration is not knowing what’s happening during that time.

Small operational improvements can create a hiring experience that feels much more intentional.

Why do qualified candidates abandon the hiring process?

Strong candidates rarely step away without a reason.

More often, they leave when the process feels slow, unclear, or impersonal.

One consistent theme we’ve heard from professionals joining Job Lasso is that many feel disconnected from the hiring process. Common frustrations include limited communication, uncertainty after interviews, and difficulty standing out in crowded applicant pools.

For employers, that makes it worth reviewing where friction is showing up.

Ask yourself:
Where do delays usually happen?
Which interviews actually influence the hiring decision?
Can two conversations become one?
Are candidates receiving clear updates between steps?

The goal isn’t to rush hiring.

It’s to remove unnecessary friction while giving candidates confidence that the process is moving forward.

The further you get into your legal career, the less likely every opportunity needs to be an immediate one.

Our early Job Lasso data reflects that.

Among professionals with 11+ years of experience, 75% selected a flexible or future timeline for making a career move.

In other words, many experienced professionals on the platform aren’t approaching the market with a “find me a new job now” mindset.

They may be evaluating:

Is the role a meaningful step forward?

Does the compensation make sense?

Is the work more interesting?

Does the opportunity offer the right level of responsibility?

Would the timing actually work?

That changes how employers should think about experienced candidates.

A strong attorney may be willing to have a conversation long before they’re ready to submit an application or commit to a move.

And that conversation can still be valuable.

Career exploration evolves as careers evolve.

The more established someone becomes, the more the question may shift from “What jobs are available?” to “What opportunity would actually be worth making a change for?”

Somewhere along the way, job hunting turned into a guessing game.

Is the position still open?
Is anyone actually hiring?
Did my application go anywhere?

We think that’s ridiculous.

Job Lasso is built around a simple idea: if you’re spending your time chasing an opportunity, there should be a real opportunity on the other end.

No ghost jobs.

Because job seekers don’t need another giant pile of listings.

They need jobs worth pursuing.

This October: Stop chasing ghost jobs. Start finding real ones.

Omaha doesn’t have a talent problem. It has a connection problem.

Experienced professionals are here. Growing employers are here. But too often, the right people and the right opportunities never cross paths.

And for professionals, career growth doesn’t have to mean leaving Omaha.

In our latest Job Lasso blog, we look at why local talent can be harder to find than it should be, what professionals may be overlooking, and how stronger connections could create more opportunity across the Omaha metro.

Omaha doesn’t have a talent problem. Omaha has a connection problem. The city is home to experienced professionals and growing employers across a wide range of industries. Yet the right people don’t always find each other. That’s become increasingly clear as Job Lasso has expanded beyond the l...

Candidates may be flexible on when they make a move, but not on what makes that move worthwhile.

That’s an important distinction for both legal professionals and employers.

Among Job Lasso respondents, approximately half selected $100,000–$200,000 as their minimum compensation expectation for a potential law-firm or in-house attorney role.

And a meaningful share set the bar higher.

20% of law-firm respondents selected ranges starting at $200,000 or more.

Among in-house respondents, that figure was 33%.

These aren’t current salaries or market compensation benchmarks. They reflect what candidates said they would expect from a potential opportunity.

That matters because being open to the right role doesn’t mean being open to any role.

Someone may be perfectly willing to wait for the right opportunity while already knowing what would make a move worth considering, whether that’s compensation, flexibility, growth, responsibility, or something else.

For employers, understanding those expectations earlier can help determine whether there’s enough alignment to keep the conversation moving.

For candidates, defining them can make career exploration more intentional, even when there’s no urgency to leave.

A flexible timeline doesn’t mean undefined expectations.

Sometimes, knowing what you’re waiting for is exactly what makes it easier to recognize the right opportunity when it comes along.

Search. Scroll. Apply. Repeat.

Finding a job can start to feel like a job in itself.

We think there should be a better way to connect talented people with opportunities that actually make sense for them.

Less noise. Better matches. More meaningful connections.

Omaha works better when finding what’s next doesn’t feel so complicated.

The legal talent market is much bigger than the pool of people actively submitting applications.

That’s one of the clearest takeaways from our early Job Lasso data.

Among nearly 600 legal professionals on the platform, only 28% said they were looking to make an immediate move.

Meanwhile, 72% selected either a future or flexible timeline.

That distinction matters.

Career exploration often starts well before someone decides they need a new job.

An attorney can be focused on their current role, invested in their work, and still be open to learning about the right opportunity.

For employers, this means the talent market is larger than the pool of people actively submitting applications.

For candidates, staying aware of the market doesn’t have to mean you’ve decided to leave. Sometimes, it simply means you want to be ready when the right opportunity appears.

The Omaha job market is competitive, but not only for job seekers.

Employers are competing, too.

Great candidates have more questions than:

“What does this job pay?”

They’re asking:

Will I grow here?
Who will I work with?
What’s the culture really like?
Is there flexibility?
Will this opportunity move my career forward?

That changes the hiring equation.

Companies can’t simply post a job and assume the right people will find it.

And professionals can’t assume the best opportunity will automatically appear in their LinkedIn feed.

The advantage on both sides comes from better connections.

That’s where Omaha’s relatively close-knit business community can be a strength. The right introduction can open a door that a traditional application never would.

Job Lasso is working to make more of those connections happen.
