A loose, frightened dog near a school zone is a hazard for the animal and for the kids and drivers around it, but crossing guards are trained to manage foot traffic, not animal behavior. A guard who knows a few basic calming techniques can stop a dangerous situation from becoming worse for everyone involved. It's a small addition to existing training with an outsized safety payoff.

Would you support burn units bringing in certified therapy dogs for patients enduring the hardest part of recovery?

Burn recovery is one of the most physically and emotionally brutal processes in medicine repeated painful treatments, weeks or months of healing, and long stretches of isolation. A small number of burn centers have started scheduling therapy dog visits between treatments, and nurses report it's one of the only things that gets patients through a session without dreading the next one.

Would you support sanitation crews being trained to check for animals before the compactor runs?

It happens more than most people realize - someone dumps a box of puppies or a bag gets tossed with an animal still inside, and the only thing standing between that animal and tragedy is a worker who happens to glance twice. Most sanitation crews get zero training on this and are moving fast against tight collection schedules. A basic "check before you compact" protocol costs nothing and could save a life every single week.
